Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy recently celebrated not only a national championship victory but also a personal milestone. Taking to Instagram, McCarthy’s girlfriend, Katya Kuropas, shared her well wishes for the young quarterback on his 21st birthday. 

The quarterback, who secured a thrilling overtime win against Alabama in the College Football Semifinal and went on to clinch the CFP title game against Washington, is set to add another ring to his collection—this time a wedding ring. January has undoubtedly been a remarkable month for McCarthy, marking both professional and personal triumphs. On his special day, Kuropas took to Instagram to share a few adorable words dedicated to her husband-to-be.

On JJ McCarthy’s 21st birthday, Katya Kuropas took to Instagram to share an adorable post dedicated to her better half. She posted a picture capturing the couple cuddling their dog, Marley, on the beach. She added a caption, saying, “Happy birthday my love. You have given me life & you are the best thing that could’ve ever happened to me.” She continued to praise “the quality of human being” McCarthy had and referred to him as her “best friend,” and someone who inspires her every day.  

Their romance began in high school at Nazareth Academy in La Grange Park, Illinois, and persisted when McCarthy committed to Michigan. Kuropas has been a steadfast supporter, cheering on her boyfriend from the bleachers, notably during the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship where Michigan secured victory against the Washington Huskies.

Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy had a January to remember as he secured both a national championship and got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Katya Kuropas. The couple shared the joyous news with a joint Instagram post, featuring beachside photos and their dog, Marley. McCarthy, who recently turned 21, declared for the 2024 NFL Draft after leading Michigan to an undefeated national championship season.

ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. ranks him as the No. 5 quarterback in this year’s draft, with USC’s Caleb Williams expected to go No. 1 overall. McCarthy expressed his gratitude for Kuropas, referring to her as his “soulmate” and expressing excitement about their future together. The couple, celebrating their fifth dating anniversary in October, shared a celebratory kiss on the field after Michigan’s first title win since 1997.
