When asked about a lifetime contract, Deion Sanders—the coach for the Colorado Buffaloes who is currently on a five-year contract—said it could “flip on you,” and hence, won’t go for it. It later became a reason for mockery for some, dragging his personal life references for rebuking even the slightest hint of a lifetime contract.

‘Coach Prime’ brought in a lot of changes, attention, and even some wins for the team. He put them back on the radar. So even though his first year with the team wasn’t a success, it did them some good. A lifetime offer thus makes sense. But while a lifetime contract is not something Sanders wants, Coach Jason Brown agreed with him. JB was of the opinion that lifetime contracts don’t work well but not without a rough-hewn style.

On the latest episode of ‘The Coach JB Show with Big Smitty’, he said, “At the end of the day, there’s no lifetime thing. There’s no lifetime thing. You can’t even keep your wife. Deion, you can’t even keep your wife, homie. No offense or not, I’m just telling you, you’ve gone through three or four of em. How you gonna keep a lifetime deal at a f****** university?”

Sanders recently called it quits with Tracey Edmonds after almost a decade of dating. Before dating Edmonds, he was previously married to Carolyn Chambers (1989-1998) and Pilar Sanders (1999-2013). He has five children from his two marriages.

Well, in the wake of such a statement from coach JB, why exactly does Deion Sanders not want a lifetime contract? Does he intend to switch teams?

Deion Sanders on saying no to a lifetime contract with Colorado Buffaloes

‘Coach Prime’ is on a mission to change the entire trajectory of the Colorado Buffaloes program. Even though it wasn’t the best, the team saw a drastic improvement under his coaching as compared to last year’s terrible record of 1-11.

Signing a lifetime contract would make him the head coach until he chooses to retire. Clarifying his plan ahead, he stated he wanted to stay with Colorado for a while, but a lifetime commitment would not be for him.

He humorously said, “That’s a wonderful gesture. I love it. But I’m not smart enough to know and old and wise enough to know that that can flip on you instantaneously. The fan only blows when you hot. My mama said that. Not me. So if y’all want to get mad, get mad at my mama.”

Earlier this year, Skip Bayless made a bold statement that Colorado should consider offering Sanders a $100 million contract extension for the next three years. While many ridiculed this claim, Bayless stood by his remark. “Deion doesn’t want to just do great things. He wants to do the greatest thing.” Could this be the reason behind Deion Sanders’ rejecting a lifetime contract? After all, it would give him more freedom to move and switch teams.

Thus, even if he doesn’t choose to stay at Colorado until the end of his career, Deion Sanders will undoubtedly give it his all to bring home the championship next season, and the fans will continue to support him.
