Deion Sanders and The Rock appeared together, posing for the public. Yes, you read that right. The United Football League opener at Choctaw Stadium in Texas sees it all. The Colorado Buffaloes’ Coach Prime attended the league’s opening game on Saturday, March 30. Until 2023, both the XFL (Extreme Football League) and USFL (United States Football League) played individually.

The two leagues decided to merge in 2024, and Sanders paid a visit to support Dwyane Johnson, who co-owns the league. Did you know that Sanders and Johnson are longtime friends?

Coach Prime could not contain his excitement from sharing the postgame actions after the UFL opening. Flaunting his patent ear-to-ear smile, Deion Sanders posed with The Rock to his right. On to his left, the coach posed with his former Dallas Cowboys teammate, the Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman. The caption of the post was, “Great Day today at the kickoff of the @ufl Much love to @therock @danygarciaco @troyaikman the Generals I met and all the many Important Men & Women that created a vehicle for these young men to continue their dreams of playing PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL. Save a few spots for our @cubuffsfootball #CoachPrime.”

Not many know that XFL was owned by a group headed by Johnson, while Fox Corporation owned the USFL. Both groups co-own the UFL, four from each of the two leagues. As mentioned in the post, Sanders has a request for his longtime friend, The Rock, with whom Coach Prime bonded over fishing and sharing the same hard work mentality. Now, Coach Prime, while giving a shout-out to the initiative, requests the organizers to provide Buff players an opportunity. However, this time, four former Buffs players got lucky.

The key partner of the UFL, Johnson, had been the guest picker for College Gameday against Colorado State. Following this, four former Colorado players, including Delrick Abrams, Carson Wells, Robert Barnes, and Devin Ross, made their way to the final roster. Abrams played for Colorado in two seasons, comprising 20 games, and is known for his 89 tackles and 15 pass break-ups. He then moved to the Atlanta Falcons and the Los Angeles Rams. He now joins the Memphis Showboats in the UFL.

Barnes played two seasons for the Buffaloes before joining the San Antonio Bahamas. His record in 23 games is 84 tackles, including five for a loss. After his exit from Colorado, Ross visited multiple franchises, including the New England Patriots and Michigan Panthers, among many others, and ultimately made his way to the UFL. Lastly, Wells impacted Colorado, with as many as 187 career tackles and 89th rank in CU’s all-time list.

Dwayne Johnson has a special place reserved in his heart for Deion Sanders, whom he has bonded with since the ’90s. As a result, Coach Prime could ask him to give the Buffs an opportunity shortly. It remains to be seen how The Rock honors his friend’s request.
