Goldberg's birthday shoutout to Deion Sanders—Is this the ultimate sports bromance?

It looks like Deion Sanders hit the birthday jackpot — twice! Even though Coach Prime chose to stay low-key on his 57th birthday, fate had different plans for him. First, he got the best gift from daughter Deiondra Sanders as she was blessed with a baby boy on August 9. While good wishes started to pour in for Deion on his special day, CU’s graduate assistant, Warren Sapp’s wish stood out.

Wondering why? After all, the WWE legend Bill Goldberg poured into Sapp’s post to shower his good wishes for his close pal, Deion. Did the same Goldberg rescue the now-Buffs HC from a near knockout?

While Deion might not like to make such a big deal about his birthday, his fans may not follow suit. Instead, they went above and beyond to make the Buffs HC feel special. Among them is Sapp, who shared a picture of him chilling with Coach Prime at the breakfast table, and they both show thumbs-up. The caption read, “It’s my Dawg’s Birthday @deionsanders #SappNotFishing #SkoBuffs.”

Deion is definitely a top dog for Sapp. But there’s another bigshot out there who’s ready to roll out the red carpet for the Buffs HC. That’s none other than Coach Prime’s ex-teammate and now the WWE legend, Goldberg. The wrestling legend dropped into the comment section of Sapp’s post. However, he did not write any words; instead, he only posted “clapping hands emojis.” Somewhere deep down, Goldberg knows 30 years of friendship when no words, just emojis, are all you need to wish your pal. It was the same friend who saved Deion during a gridiron scuffle.

Before entering the world of wrestling, Goldberg enjoyed a short stint in the NFL. The Sacramento Gold Miners’ star was picked up in the 11th round of the 1990 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. However, later on, it was only with the Atlanta Falcons that the two were paired together. However, besides playing football, Goldberg had a special role to play.

There was a time when Deion got into a heated argument that further involved a physical altercation. Goldberg was only one call away, as he once stated, “I saved him after he got hot out of bounds. I was the weight staff and Deion treated me just like anybody else. By the way, had wrestling matches in the corner and anytime they picked, him he’d have me wrestle for him.”

Chuck Smith, another Falcon who shared the same timeline with Deion and Goldberg, confirmed how the now-WWE legend came as a protective shield for his friend: “Goldberg was Deion’s ace in the hole.” Goldberg’s kid, Gage Goldberg, is now a Buffs player, proving the Sanders-Goldberg friendship is still going strong.
