Being one of the most buzzing head coaches in the whole of CFB comes with its responsibilities. While viewers decide some, others are set internally. Deion Sanders is a man who aims to excel in everything and gives it whatever he has. Even though the last season left that battered and bruised, Sanders is walking into the 2024 season with a steely determination to win it all as a head coach. So naturally when he was asked about how he wanted to be remembered as a coach or a player, Deion Sanders answered without a second thought.

When you’re a player and you do some tremendous things and you have a time frame and a suggested era. When you’re coaching, the impact is also tremendous. Some people would think it as glorious as playing but to me, it’s much more impactful because some of the people that had the greatest impact in my life were coaches,” Sanders said in the Pregame Show Network’s interview. He was ready with his reply in the next statement, saying, “I really, truly believe that when it’s all said and done, it will be about the coach, not the player.”

Sanders also revealed how he planned on carving out the path to cement his identity as the CU head coach. It would be through fulfilling the fans’ hopes, which were shattered to bits in the previous season after their 4-8 record.

With all the access and ability comes expectation and I really like to exceed it,” Sanders admitted, revealing his steely determination to win the hearts and record charts over this season. “You know I’m going to work until I do. I’m going to make sure we do,” Sanders concluded at the end, all while setting his expectations straight from the next season in Colorado. However, that was not the only reason why it was important for Prime to establish his identity as a head coach.

Deion Sanders also didn’t miss the chance to remember all the legacy he has built other than being the head coach of Colorado. “We’re like right now some people don’t even know me as the player. They know me as the athletic man, the Kentucky Fried Chicken Man, the shades man, the book man, the shoe man,” Sanders stated, putting his identity as a CU head coach above every other identity he possessed.

Surely, his publishing a self-written book, starring in KFC ads during the Super Bowl time with his family, and striking a deal with his old partner Nike to rejuvenate the sneakerhead in him, all made Sanders himself. But what pushes him to go to the field every day despite having two of his toes amputated and balance problems arising out of it is his identity as a Colorado head coach.
