Buckle up, college football fans! The feud between Deion Sanders and Jay Norvell is still alive! The rivalry between the Colorado Buffaloes and Colorado State Rams is already intense, but things are getting even hotter, all because of the head coaches!
Remember the “Rocky Mountain Showdown”? Yeah, things have gotten a little out of control there before. Recently, Norvell threw some shade at Coach Prime, saying he has “no feelings” for him and added, “I don’t think about Deion Sanders unless you guys ask me a question about him.” Ouch!
Now, CU Buffs alum Matt McChesney doesn’t think Norvell gets it. On the Zero 2 Sixty podcast, he discussed the aftermath with co-host Bailey Price. McChesney believes Norvell’s attempt to downplay the rivalry has backfired, stating, “Maybe Jay Norvell doesn’t understand that not only has he taken a very personal game from people of Colorado, but now he’s escalated to make it personal with Coach Prime.”

McChesney further alleges the situation has gotten personal beyond the coaches, claiming, “Jay Norvell’s son taking s**t, wife won’t shut the f*ck up. Everybody in the Norvell family has been involved.” According to him, “everybody in Boulder remembers” this, and Deion & Co. are ready for payback.

McChesney, like many others, is loving this feud! “I want them to keep talking. Look, the more gas you can throw on this fire, the better,” he added. Last year’s game between the two teams was one of the most-watched college football games on ESPN, with an impressive 9.3 million viewers tuning in. McChesney is betting on a similar turnout this year, especially with Norvell adding fuel to the fire.
Deion Sanders & Co. are ready for Round 2
It all started with a pre-game jab from CSU’s head coach, Jay Norvell. Last year, he took a personal shot at Deion Sanders, saying, “When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glass off. That’s what my mother taught me.” And Coach Prime took it personally, and the fire was lit. The Buffs came through on the field, winning a super exciting double-overtime game against CSU.

Things got even spicier when quarterback Shedeur Sanders celebrated with a wrist-watch flex. But the drama didn’t stop there. Norvell’s wife, Kim Norvell, fueled the fire with a now-deleted post criticizing Shedeur’s behavior. She wrote, “Shedeur acted like a B when Jay turned his back after trying to talk to his dad, and held up his watch.” Soon, screenshots flew around, and many fans felt the Norvell family was taking things too far.
The Rams might have lost the game, but they had a controversial highlight. Their defensive back, Henry Blackburn, delivered a brutal hit on Buffs star player Travis Hunter, leaving him with a liver injury. But more recently, Norvell’s son, Jaden Norvell, added to the controversial move. When EA Sports college football video game rated Hunter with a 95 overall, lower than the player who hit him, Jaden suggested the hitter deserved more credit. He wrote, “Blackburn 99 hit power Travis Hunter strength should be a 5 hit the weight room.” Now, with all this back and forth, the September 14 matchup between these two teams promises to be wild!
