Jaxson Dart soared to fame with his stellar play for the Rebels last season. Now, he’s poised to excel off the field too. As Ole Miss‘ quarterback, Dart has emerged as one of the most marketable players in the game. In fact, his recent multi-million dollar NIL deals have rewritten college football history.

With this massive deal, Dart can now make as big an impact off the field as he does on it. However, this newfound success comes with its challenges. Will the new NIL policy make life smoother or rougher for this college athlete?

Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart just inked a groundbreaking deal with Nicholas Air, making him the first to secure a name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal tied to private aviation. Because of this, Dart gains personal access to Nicholas Air’s entire fleet of jets. He can use them for family travel, training sessions, and charity work. Dart’s usage depends on factors like distance and aircraft type.

However, sports finance expert Joe Pompliano warns that Dart’s deal might bring unexpected challenges. He took his X handle to raise a point on the potentially massive tax bills. He said “NIL is great….but one of my concerns is college kids being shocked when the tax bill hits. For example, the details of this deal aren’t known, but 15-20 private jet hours might be valued at ~$200,000. Having to pay taxes on that (after getting it for free) is a wake-up call.”

Many of the fans seem to agree with this statement. Some even pointed fingers at the new NIL policy, suggesting it could have a negative impact.

NIL deals: Game changer or tax trouble?

With the NCAA relaxing rules last year, student-athletes gained the ability to earn money from their NIL deals. This sparked new opportunities and concerns in college sports. High-profile programs are now offering six-figure NIL deals, raising eyebrows and debates.

A lingering worry with NIL is the potential tax burden for college athletes. Dart’s deal, brokered by Everett Sports marketing agency, might have likely included financial guidance. However, receiving free private jet travel could lead to hefty tax bills, serving as a harsh reality check. Do you think more education is needed for young athletes on these issues?
