Deion Sanders is a prominent college football head coach with a powerful presence and influence. He single-handedly transformed Colorado’s college football scene after just one season in Boulder. But like everybody else, he’s not immune to allegations and criticism.
Following his first unsuccessful season on the field, Coach Prime suffered public backlash because of an alleged controversial move. As former Buffs LB Eoghan Kerry reported, his HC dismissed him because he didn’t have a linebacker’s physique and strength. While Deion Sanders had remained silent on the matter, his response is now shedding new light on the situation, potentially altering our understanding of the events.
Coach Prime questions his players’ complaints

For Coach Prime, there isn’t a reason why the Buffs should be complaining; they have capable coaches, uniforms, and equipment. He took a shot at why players complain, saying, “The only thing that we could really narrow this thing down that you can complain about is your productivity and participation… How we see you is probably not how you see yourself… Did we tell the others to leave? No. But why were they complaining on the way out?“
This defensive stance emerged in retaliation for what happened last season when Eoghan Kerry entered the transfer portal. It’s no secret that Deion Sanders made a roster overhaul when he arrived in Boulder from Jackson State. But Kerry’s decision to enter the transfer portal came after one month into the season. He wrote on his social media, “To my brothers, sharing the Colorado title with you all has been an honor… I’ll be entering my name into the transfer portal with 3 years of remaining eligibility.” After this suspicious incident, Kerry exposed it all in an interview with Jason Whitlock.

Eoghan Kerry’s allegations on Coach Prime
Deion Sanders did nothing to intervene; he just said, “Tell him why,” when LB coach Andre Hart told Kerry they were releasing him. The young LB who played sparingly as part of the special teams in 2022 had to hear Hart say that the Buffs required an “older, more physical, stronger guy.” He recalled on the Fearless with Jason Whitlock podcast, “My heart sank, and it was hard for me to hear.” Kerry’s emotional response to his dismissal underscores the personal toll of such decisions.

For Coach Prime to have done what was retold by Kerry would put him in a bad light. However, as is seen from his recent statement about telling players to leave, which is negative, we can’t say for sure who the villain or the victim is here. The ambiguity of the situation leaves us with more questions than answers, heightening our curiosity about the unfolding drama.
