Is Dylan Raiola the next Patrick Mahomes, or is the hype just too much too soon?

Patrick Mahomes must be blushing after watching the Nebraska training football camp on July 29, Monday. Wondering why? After all, he found his doppelgänger. It’s none other than the five-star QB recruit from Georgia, Dylan Raiola, who is now part of the Cornhuskers. But what made him garner so much hype?

At the training camp in Omaha, Raiola turned heads looking like one of the NFL’s biggest stars, Kansas City Chiefs’ Mahomes. The resemblance between the two has been so vivid that even big shots like Tyreek Hill and Mahomes himself could not help but share their take on Raiola’s freaky clone alert! Meanwhile, it’s Nebraska HC Matt Rhule who counts on the QB to give Deion Sanders’ Colorado a hard time.

Ranked as the second-best QB in the 2024 recruiting class, Raiola is vying for the starting QB position with the Cornhuskers this fall. But for the time being, he is too preoccupied with something else. It’s his newfound interest to have that Mahomes mojo. When he walked into the Nebraska camp, it made people present there for once be like, “What’s Mahomes doing here?” Only to get their bubble busted, as it was none other than their very own Raiola.

The Cornhuskers QB made a landfall sporting his curly hair also known as broccoli hair and a trimmed goatee just like the Chiefs QB. Raiola also wore Oakley ski glasses, an Adidas T-shirt, and shorts paired with a couple of chains that are the signature of the 3x Super Bowl champion. Being Mahomes’ creepy carbon copy, left Miami Dolphins’ legend Hill mesmerized as he shared his reaction tagging the Kansas City QB, “boy ain’t no way  @PatrickMahomes.” And guess what? Even though they do not share any familial ties, Mahomes gave a nod of approval to Raiola’s style, “That’s my lil cuzzo.” Keeping the fun part and physical resemblance aside, Nebraska HC Rhule counts on Railo for the uncanny resemblance between the two in terms of gameplay.

Raiola is Mahomes 2.0 in the making

As if the initial reactions were not enough, a 90-second clip started doing rounds on the internet. It was from Raiola’s spring game performance. The user captioned the clip as “Nebraska deda*s has a Mahomes cosplayer at QB”. The video throws light on how the Nebraska QB’s build, pocket movement, arm throwing angles, footwork, and even No.15 jersey is Mahomes’ mirror image.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Dylan Raiola the next Patrick Mahomes, or is the hype just too much too soon?

Have an interesting take?

Why wouldn’t it be? Not many know, back in April this year, Raiola flew off to Kansas City after gifting Cornhuskers with 239 yards and two touchdowns in the Spring game. All he had his mind was to be under the tutelage of Bobby Stroupe, Mahomes’ trainer. Ranked as the third-best QB in the 2024 cycle, all Raiola wanted was to boost his talent. And who better person than the one who made Mahomes who he is today? Stroupe has guided the Kansas City QB since he was in the fourth grade.

“Bobby has a lot of things that he does. I think the best thing he focuses on is flexibility in uncomfortable positions. Being strong…trying to stay loose, stay flexible, avoiding hits. And when you’re taking hits, you become durable,” said Raiola in an interview with Omaha World-Herald. Like Mahomes’ looks, in case Raiola can master the phenom’s skills, there would be no force in the world that could stop Nebraska Cornhuskers from seeking their revenge against the Colorado Buffaloes’ last season 36-14 win!
