Declaring bankruptcy and escaping the $11.89 million-worth charges may sound like a wild plan, but Shilo Sanders tried to make it possible. According to Denver Westwood’s analysis of the legal documents, all this started in 2015 when Shilo attended the Focus Academies high school Triple A Academy. One day, Deion Sanders’ son was charged for breaking the school’s no-phone policy when the now Buffs safety was seen calling his mother. Then, Shilo landed an attack on Josh Darjean, the security officer, for executing a disciplinary action against Shilo.

Shortly after he was taken to Darjean’s office, one of Coach Prime’s assistant coaches handed the officer a phone with Deion on the other side. Instead of safeguarding his son, the Buffs HC only ordered confiscating Shilo’s phone. Per the January 29 filing, Deion told Darjean, “You’re my brother in Christ, I need you to go get the phone…as soon as you get the phone from him, give me a call back.” It was at that moment the situation went against Shilo’s favor when he allegedly slammed his elbow into Darjean’s chest.

According to the lawsuit filed by the security officer in question in Dallas District Court, he had “sustained severe and permanent injuries including a broken neck, damage to his cervical spine, permanent neurological injuries and irreversible incontinence.” After this, Shilo was aware that he would not have his father by his side and would have to fight this battle alone, so he resorted to a tactical move.
Discrepancies in Shilo’s financial reports spotted
Even though Shilo could not reach the fame his brother Shedeur received, securing the second rank in the NIL list, he did find a spot as the highest-valued NIL safety in college football. Owning a NIL valuation of $1 million, the Buffs safety thought it wise to use it. Since $11.8 million is a big amount for Shilo to pay, he decided to surrender himself financially before the court. However, the plan went awry for the Buffs’ safety as the court questioned the authenticity of the information since he avoided mentioning his earnings from NIL.

Shilo showed a lack of substantiation between the two amounts. In December 2023, he showed assets worth $320,477, which dropped from the number he revealed in October 2023, which amounted to $477,881. It was later discovered that the valuation mentioned did not involve the NIL deals that Shilo landed.
While Deion Sanders had been strict with his son the last time, what action he takes for Shilo after he has surrendered himself is to be seen. Now that the Buffs safety will represent the young version of Coach Prime in Starz crime drama BMF, what strategy will Coach Prime apply to whitewash his son’s reputation?
