Is Jerrick Gibson the next big thing in college football, or just another overhyped prospect?

You sure have heard of the name Jerrick Gibson before, the No. 2 ranked Texas RB. Well, he holds great experience, and with that comes a lot of knowledge and respect for the game and vice versa. Jerrick received All-America and all-District honors and also received an invitation to play in the 2024 All-American Bowl, well that is a good start on a voyage to know all about him.

Now imagine a guy from Florida who, like many others, had a dream of playing football since he was a child. With the support of his parents, he never looked back. Let us know more about this guy, how he grew up, what his future looks like, and many more, as there is a lot more to this guy than we can see.

Jerrick started his football journey with Gainesville High School, spending his freshman year there and his sophomore year at Mundy’s Mills High School. Later, though he decided to spend his senior years at IMG Academy. In all the spots that he has been in, he has always left his mark. Talking of his Sophomore year, Jerrick earned Region 3-AAAAA first-team honors in 2021 by registering 626 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Jerrick seems to be an all-rounder. Well, not just football, he also ran track in his high school with an excellent record of 11.33 in Spring 2021. Making this record as a freshman is indeed a great job done right there. Talking of his time with the IMG Academy during his participation in the FBU Freshman All-American Bowl in 2020, 247Sports named Jerrick a top performer, doing all this at an age like his is no joke.

Well, the talk about Jerrick’s abilities can go on forever. He possesses a very good muscular build as he stands 5’1” tall and weighs over 200 pounds. On the field, he benefits from his stature, easily running through arm tackles in all the matches. Jerrick, who ran track in High School, knows how to capitalize on his speed. His explosive plays showcase his speed as he easily breaks into the open field, proving that he is made of steel and nothing less. Everyone knew his capabilities as could be seen through the fact that Jerrick got offers from big programs like Colorado, Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, Texas A&M, USC Trojans, and many others. But guess what, Jerrick had an idea whom he wanted to go for. It was Texas for him as he made his choice clear and committed to Texas on June 24th last year.

The stars are in favor of Jerrick; he is the No. 2 ranked running back for Texas. He probably chose to hold hands with Texas regardless of the multiple great options that he had because he believes that coach choice matters a lot. With that thought, Jerrick has made a great relationship with Texas HC Steve Sarkisian and RB Coach Tashard Choice. Sarkisian has it all in him. He can polish diamonds, make them shine, and see their worth. He has done it before too by setting a track record of producing NFL players like Bijian Robinson, who is also an RB, just like Jerrick. Bijian was the no. 8 pick for the NFL 2023 draft, enough of a fact to influence Jerrick to make his decision to choose Texas.
