Higgins has played only one season in 2020 and he managed to make only two tackles in that season. By the end of 2021, the player had upped his contribution with five tackles and a fumble recovery. His career-defining moment was in the year 2022 when he made 11 tackles in a game against Northwestern, and by the end of the season, he had made thirty-nine tackles, one and half of which were four losses and half of which was a sack.
Additionally, Higgins’ career took a new leap in the 2023 season. He began the season with 16 tackles against Utah State and later recorded a new personal best of 18 tackles in a game against Penn State throughout the season also received First-Team All-Big Ten honors and was also a semi-finalist for the Butkus Award. He also won the Duke Slater Golden Gavel Award as the most cooperative player with the media according to the Hawkeye beat writers.
