How much of Oscar Delp's success can be attributed to his supportive parents?

The 6-foot-5 and 245-pound Oscar Delp had other plans for his future before coming out as Georgia’s tight end. While growing up, he would play lacrosse effortlessly because, as per him, “I’ve always been a head taller than the other kids,” Delp said, explaining that it becomes easy to play lacrosse when you’re that large.

Still, football called for him. After several recruiters saw his film and said he had a lot of potential for a tight end. When Delp heard that, it caused his excitement to skyrocket, and he felt overjoyed. Following this, he began to show off his potential, establishing himself as the top prospect in his division and receiving a four-star rating from numerous analysts. Given that his father was a former professional lacrosse player, Delp, who grew up in a sporting family, may have considered following in his footsteps.

Chris Delp, his father, has been living in Cumming, Georgia with his family. Chris was a phenomenal lacrosse player who had his collegiate journey at Rogers University, which was during 1990. Later in his career, he was a starter in 1994 and used to play midfield for the Scarlet Knights. If we ask him about his son’s choice to continue with football, he says, “I never pushed him toward any specific sport.” He then explains, “I wanted him to find his path. When he showed interest in football, I was all in to support him.” By doing so, we can learn about the kind of supportive environment Oscar got from his parents.

Oscar’s mother, Mary Delp, also plays a pivotal role in building his career, like his father. Mary herself is also an accomplished runner and athlete. When she was active in the sport, she participated in the honorable Boston Marathon. Mary’s athletic genes and dedication towards fitness, no wonder, played a role in Oscar’s development. To explain her feelings towards her sport, she says, “Running has taught me so much about setting goals and working hard to achieve them. I hope he sees that same value in his own journey.” Mary is the key person in Oscar’s life on and off the field. She further says that Oscar knows he can tell her if he wants to share anything, regardless of the subject; she is always there for him. When you have that kind of support system, you can probably achieve anything in life. While there are more from the sports background in his family apart from his mom and dad.

Oscaer’s uncle, James Chapell, was a receiver at Clemson during the late 1990s. During his playing career, he shared the field with current Tigers quarterback coach Brandon Streeter, and the family is still in touch with them. After learning about all these ties of Oscar’s family with sports, one thing is sure: he’s also going to be a famous name in the football world sooner or later. At West Forsyth High School, Oscar Delp’s career was taking heights as he fought 43 passes for 730 yards and 9 touchdowns during his junior year, and that’s wonderful! Delp’s senior season was even better, as he hauled in 59 receptions for 923 yards and 8 touchdowns. After consistently hitting great scores, he got a spot in the prestigious 2022 All-American Bowl.

His huge size and pace of speed combined with his on-field skills garnered him the attention of all the famous colleges from which he chose to be with the Georgia Bulldogs. Since he hit the Athens, Oscar Delp has been busy practicing and contributed to leading all receivers in Georgia’s annual G-Day spring game by doing 7 receptions for 91 yards. The highlight of his freshman year was his first career catch, a 28-yard touchdown against South Carolina. Now that he’s up for his future games at the Bulldogs with the support of his family, the sky is the limit for this guy.
