Does Miller Moss owe his success to his parents' unwavering support and guidance?

Years of persistence finally paid off when Miller Moss was confirmed as a USC quarterback. He didn’t mince words when addressing this: “In my mind, I’ve lived every day of the past two years preparing for this.” From the day of his enrollment at USC until the day he became a regular quarterback for the Trojans, it was an interesting journey to witness

If we talk about how it all started, we must go back to when Miller was very young. His mom and dad gave him a balanced environment from the beginning. It was undoubtedly because they came from similar backgrounds and instilled in him values he would go on to cherish. Let’s get to know Miller better from his parents’ point of view.

The early life of Miller Moss

Miller’s father, Eric Owen Moss, is a lead designer at Eric Owen Moss Architects. Eric Moss has been teaching at prominent colleges all his life. Most recently, he was the Southern California Institute of Architecture director from 2002 to 2015. It would have been a versatile environment for Miller to grow up in. While talking about the time when Miller was young, his father says, “Whatever you put in front of him he kind of likes.” He explains that not only was football Miller’s first love, but he would also play chess, write stories, and participate in math competitions. What a lovely couple who taught their child to be aware of almost everything!

Miller’s mom, Emily Kovner, was a USC School of Architecture professor and currently works as Eric’s architecture company’s managing partner and designer. Some time ago, she was seen interacting with ESPN, sharing insights into Miller’s childhood and showcasing his versatile interest in different subjects. “We have so many books on Greek gods and goddesses and airplanes and rocket ships from those days.” She adds that despite being curious about everything, Miller’s love for football never stayed hidden, and in the end, he chose to follow his heart. It seems Miller tasted everything and partook in what he liked the most. That’s all about his early life; now, coming to his football career, let us look at his high school stats and journey to become USC’s starting QB.

Before settling at USC, Miller went through a few other places. He started his football journey in 2017 at Loyola High School in Los Angeles, where the Trojans’ Jack Snyder also prepped. Coming into his sophomore year, he threw 19 TDs and 14 interceptions. After shaping his skills for two years, he managed to complete 215 of 319 passes for 3118 yards with 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in his third year. That year’s stats led him to be Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Team and Los Angeles Daily News offensive player of the year.

After completing high school, Moss Miller joined USC in 2021. During his initial year as a freshman, he played two games as a backup quarterback. Coming up the following year, his playtime increased as he played in five games against Rice, Fresno State, Arizona State, Colorado, and the Pac-12 championship against Utah as a backup QB. In 2023, he completed 46 passes for 681 yards and 7 touchdowns with 1 INT. On top of that, he rushed for 32 yards on 4 carries. And finally, the moment came after praying so hard for it; he is now USC’s starting quarterback, and he’s all set to rock the upcoming season.
