There lies a high possibility for the former Tennessee Volunteers running back, Jaylen Wright to hear his name announced in the 2024 NFL Draft. It was during the pre-draft process that Wright shot to focus. Owing to his excellent performance at the NFL Combine, he is likely to end up in any one of the 32 NFL teams.
Besides being a part of the University of Tennessee Athletics program which served as his source of motivation, the support of his parents often goes unnoticed. It is now time to find out more about Wright’s pillars of strength.

An explosive running back owning elite speed, Wright enrolled himself at Tennessee in January 2021 and immediately jumped into the spring practice. He gradually climbed the ladder of success from being a freshman to a sophomore and finally became a junior. One of the highlights of his career journey is that he posted the 19th 1,000-yard rushing season in program history in 2023, becoming the first player to do so since Jalen Hurd (1,288) in 2015. Behind these accolades, there lies a strong influence of Wright’s parents.

As per the sources, Wright was born to Porsche Lewis and Curtis Wright in April, 2003. Even though other than the names, not much is known about his parents, we found the answer to a very crucial question. It was his father who played an inspiring role in motivating Wright to take up football. As confessed by the running back himself, he has pushed him to be great since he was four years old. Hence, Wright is now all set to leave a mark in the sport as a form of paying tribute to his father.
Why is Wright the talk of the town?
Wright continues to be a big riser in the leadup to this year’s NFL Draft. He has found himself on an upward trend since his performance at the 2024 NFL Combine. At only 20 years old, he had the second-longest broad jump that any running back has made in the history of NFL Combine which is 11’2’’.

Besides, he timed in at 4.38 seconds during his second 40-yard dash attempt. This time too he succeeded in leaving a mark and recorded the fastest 5-yard acceleration of any running back in the past two combines. Along with this, in the past year, he became University of Tennessee’s first 1,00-yard rusher since 2015. The only point of controversy regarding Wright’s skill is that he would rather be an elusive runner on the edge and may fumble in terms of being a power runner on the inside.
Going by the day 2 mock draft, since the Dallas Cowboys are on their quest to draft a running back, rumors swirl around Wright being the right pick. Holding No. 5 position as per the RB ranking, he could be the more well-rounded target for the Big D.
