His mother, Deetra Sanchez, was an athlete at UTEP, working as a 200-400-meter sprinter. Now we know from where Devin has gotten sports genes, and his parents, being sportsmen themselves, recognized the special athletic talent in him when he was just three. His father, Daniel Sanchez, who played football at UTEP and coached high school football in the Houston area, has built Devin’s sports orientation since he was a child. Education is really important to us,” Daniel says. “My wife and I being former athletes, both understand sports is another avenue to open up opportunities. We push it. All it can do is open doors.” He recalls one incident when he used to coach his oldest son Daniel’s youth football team, while Devin’s talents started flourishing. He would try to imitate the older boys while they were practicing, and at the age of three, he would beat his brother in sprint races.
