Shilo Sanders is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. He’s facing legal trouble due to an alleged assault on a high school security guard. It all started nine years back when the security guard, John Darjean, simply followed Deion Sanders’ instructions to confiscate Shilo’s phone. However, things escalated quickly. The “then-high school kid,” Shilo, allegedly responded with violence, slamming his elbow into Darjean’s chest and causing severe bone injuries and nerve damage. Soon, a lawsuit was filed in 2016, and in 2022, Darjean won a whopping $11.8 million in damages against Shilo.

Now, this already messy situation takes an even uglier turn. Despite being a top NIL earner and coming from a family worth millions, Shilo has recently filed for bankruptcy. This move has added fuel to the hatred fire that was already surrounding the Sanders family.

Deion Sanders and his sons seem to have attracted controversy by all means possible, from messy exits in the transfer portal to ugly lawsuits. But despite criticism, they’ve built a successful brand, raking in millions with each new marketing deal coming occasionally. Building wealth isn’t the problem here, but trying to hide it to dodge a lawsuit makes things look bad.

Recently, NFL Rumors reported on social media that “In 2024, Colorado Shilo Sanders, son of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, filed for bankruptcy to avoid a $11.89 million Texas court judgment.” This news unsurprisingly sparked outrage online, with many slamming the Colorado Buffaloes’ safety for his “irresponsible and repulsive behavior.

The online community wasn’t shy about dragging Deion Sanders into the conversation. Apparently, the incident began with Deion instructing the security guard to confiscate his son’s phone. One user bluntly commented, “That whole family is something else.” Another took aim at the motivational coach Deion’s absence in this drama: “Where’s his father? Always claiming he’s teaching men how to ‘succeed’ in this world.” Meanwhile, the severity of the alleged assault also drew shock, with a user writing, “Apparently he left a security guard permanently disabled? That’s crazy.”

There were even lighthearted jabs, with someone pointing out the typo in the NFL Rumors statement: “Colorado Shilo Sanders? Imagine the foresight on Prime’s part to name his son ‘Colorado.'” But the overall sentiment was harsh. Some directly called Shilo “trash” and “scum bag.” Looks like the incident is not favoring Sanders’ brand image right now. He must work hard to fix his reputation with the NFL draft coming up in 2025.
