Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter have been the talk of Buffaloes‘ training camp for a while now.  After impressing in the “Black and Gold” spring game by leading their offense to victory, the Buffs stars have been striving for improvement. To support this, the team organized activities ranging from fun team-building camps to rigorous Navy SEAL exercises.

Hunter, the two-way star, even impressed all in a swimming race against trained SEAL swimmers. Meanwhile, quarterback Shedeur showcased excellent leadership by organizing a mini-coaching camp for his wide receivers. From training fellow juniors to being role models, both players have made significant strides.

However, the June 3rd “Well Off Media” episode showed the two Buffs stars becoming a laughingstock for their juniors. During their recent running drill, all the Buffs were tested for speed. When the spotlight fell on “superhuman swimmer” Travis Hunter, he seemed to slow down a bit. Deion Sanders Jr., filming the event, couldn’t help but jokingly say, “I can tell you what slowing you down,” hinting at Travis’s past leg injury from last season’s game against CSU. It seems the past might still be lingering.

Even the usually energetic quarterback, Shedeur, appeared sluggish during the speed test. This drew playful taunts from the surrounding juniors who mocked him with shouts of “ooohhh.” Shedeur defended himself, saying, “I only got so many in me, bro, top speed. Nah, bro, you race different,” implying he saves his peak performance for actual games.

While the juniors insisted it was simply “trolling,” the video raises questions. Can Shedeur and Hunter truly live up to the hype surrounding them?

Shedeur Sanders and Hunter have to deliver the best in 2024

Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter are seen as the Buffaloes’ key to success. Last year’s lackluster 4-8 record was arguably salvaged by their impressive performances. Now, with a move to the Big 12 conference after 13 seasons in the Pac-12, the stakes are higher. Some view this as a chance for Coach Prime’s team to shine, while others highlight the tougher competition from teams like Utah and Kansas.

Now, beyond lifting the Buffaloes from mediocrity, both stars have their eyes set on the 2025 NFL Draft with big aspirations. Deion Sanders has even gone so far as to suggest they could pull an “Eli Manning,” refusing to play for teams that draft them. To secure a top draft slot, they need to boost their stats and make the most of the Big 12 challenge.

However, despite Coach Sanders’ hype of them being “top five picks,” Shedeur currently trails Georgia’s Carson Beck in some draft projections. Similarly, Hunter isn’t even in the top 10 according to both Pro Football Network and ESPN’s mock drafts. Clearly, both players have some work to do before fully living up to the hype.
