Catch him if you can!

Travis Hunter seems to live by the mantra. The Colorado Buffaloes’ two-way phenom is turning heads with his speed training regimen. As showcased on his YouTube channel, Hunter can be seen living up to his potential while running on the tracks. While the Buffs’ dual threat incorporates speed conditioning into his daily training routine to improve his chances of being selected early in the NFL Draft, he has no intention of surpassing Deion Sanders’ speed records.

This came as a surprise since earlier Hunter had thrown an open challenge to Coach Prime to beat him in fishing. But defeating Deion Sanders on the ground is a BIG NO-NO for him.

Speedster Hunter’s path to perfection

Ever since Hunter made it to the EA Sports College Football 25 cover, the two-way phenom has been no less than a scene-stealer. His headline act is believed to boost his stock in the upcoming NFL Draft so much so that Hunter is now believed to surpass Shedeur Sanders. As the speculation hangs over him, the athlete with multiple talents is giving his all to accomplish something significant using his speed. The best part of the video comes with Hunter’s promise, “Tell you this going to be the fastest in the world.” Locking onto his target, he is making the best use of the track, where even a millisecond determines success or failure.

He has his trainer behind him, who comes up with the constant support. “Son let me tell you something right now, they say you ran 4.6? They lied. If you ran a 4.6 you was sleep… you was doing something helluva wrong.” Who says it’s just a practice when Hunter gave his 110% as captured on the stopwatch that showed a clocking-in time of 3 minutes, 8 seconds? But the number was kept a secret from Hunter as the trainer confessed, “I ain’t going tell him. I don’t want to get his head too big right quick. He just keep him in perspective.” With this, fans might get optimistic to witness a Deion Sanders vs. Travis Hunter showdown, but the chances are slim to none.

Hunter’s reluctance to compete against Deion Sanders

How could one forget Coach Prime’s show-stopping act at the Marriott Marquis in New York City in 1989? The now Buff HC skyrocketed to prominence setting the record for the fastest 40 in NFL Combine history, as he dashed 40 yards in 4.27 seconds. Hunter is dedicating himself to his speed training practice, so why is he not open to taking on a challenge from the Buffs HC? To someone that the dual-threat looks up to, contention stands no chance.

Hunter has made it clear in an interview that in no way the Buffs’ two-way phenom is trying to beat Coach Prime’s record. He seems to stand no chance in front of his mentor, who startled the fans by sweeping as swiftly as a breeze while reaching the end zone, making use of his signature high knees. Hence, Hunter has no second thoughts and resolutely stands by the fact that Deion is still the best. When the host questioned him, “Who’s faster? You or him?” came Hunter’s immovable belief, “Back in his time, he ran like a 2-1. So yeah, he was definitely faster. He ran like a two flat.”

The fastest speed that Hunter has managed so far is 4.48. But he is zeroing in on his ambition to be the fastest. However, even then the two-way star would only like to keep his competition against Coach Prime to “Who caught the bigger fish?”
