Did Shelomi Sanders make the right call leaving Coach Prime for Alabama? What's your take?

Coach Prime has all his kids gathered under his wings in Colorado — well, almost all! With Shedeur and Shilo Sanders making waves as Buffs stars and Deion Jr. handling their media, just one name has been missing. Yep, it’s Shelomi Sanders.

The basketball guard, who played under her dad at Jackson State and Colorado, made the surprising decision to transfer to Alabama A&M earlier this year. Four months later, she finally explains why she left her Buffs family.

In an Instagram live on August 11, Shelomi shared her reasons for leaving when Coach Freeman asked about her decision. “For me, I would say, yeah, last year during the beginning where I just came home sad every day,” she said. Now, Shelomi had quite a rough season with the Buffaloes, finishing as a redshirt and being sidelined by injury. Well, she played for just 11 minutes all season. “I was sad and mad like every day. That and when I was at Jackson, like if I didn’t leave when I did, I promise you I would have quit,” she admitted.

When pressed for more details, Shelomi kept some feelings to herself, smiling as she tried not to say “nothing too bad” about her dad’s Colorado program. However, she did reveal, “It just wasn’t good energy, wasn’t good vibes, wasn’t enough being poured into me as a player… it was just bad. But I’m good now.”

This “bad energy” led her to enter the transfer portal in April, a tough decision to break from her family in Boulder. But now, it seems like it was the right move, as she’s found “good vibes” in Alabama!

Shelomi Sanders had a rough exit from the Boulder team, with Coach Prime not too happy about it. He didn’t hold back, saying, “It was stupid. You get a team before you enter the portal.” The decision to leave her dad’s program seemed to cause tension between them, leading to a brief period of no communication. However, Shelomi quickly found a new home at Alabama A&M, calling the move a “blessing.”

While her dad stayed quiet about the transfer, her mom, Pilar Sanders, supported her every step of the way. Pilar encouraged Shelomi with a heartfelt, “YOU GOTTA PUT YOU FIRST BABY!” and constantly cheered her on in the comments, showing her pride for her baby girl. Well, Pilar clearly understood what her daughter was going through.

Now at Alabama, Shelomi is fully dedicating herself to practice and showing her passion for basketball. This June, she shared a practice clip in which she made multiple attempts to score baskets. Even her coach, Ebi Ere, responded to it, calling her a “workhorse” who always asks for more practice. It looks like Shelomi has found strong support in Alabama. Now, all the “good vibes” might help her put in better stats this time.
