Is JJ McCarthy about to lose all the interest of the teams he garnered throughout the months? His draft stocks hit an all-time high, he became one of the most demanded QBs in the 2024 pre-draft market, teams went berserk after him ranging from gala dinners to private workouts, but did all of it become “over the top?”
McCarthy’s still enshrined in the top-five picks, it’s just his pick number that keeps fluctuating. The teams in dire need of a QB are likely to draft them in the top 5 picks, even if it means trading up. The Giants and the Vikings are two such teams that showed initial interest in McCarthy. Both of them are now in talks with Drake Maye, mostly because wagering on JJ McCarthy is too risky looking at the current situation. Hence, Maye becomes their secured draft.
In @TonyPauline most recent mock draft, he has the #Vikings trading up with the #Cardinals to select QB Drake Maye.
He also had J.J. McCarthy going at pick No. 3 to the #Patriots 👀

The Vikings, however, will definitely need to trade up since they have the pick No.11 and 23 in the first round of the NFL draft 2024. Per the latest mock draft by Tony Pauline, the Vikings are trading up with the Cardinals at No.4, not to select JJ McCarthy but Drake Maye. One reason for it in Pauline’s mock draft is the Patriots already picking McCarthy up at No.3.
“The Vikings are desperate for a QB, and Maye is probably a bit underrated at this point,” Pauline said. However, the Vikings will face strong competition from the Giants.
The New York Giants are also in the Drake Maye race

Per Ralph Vacchiano, the Giants are hot on their heels for Drake Maye. Since McCarthy was touted as the potential pick of Washington Commanders, other teams who had high hopes for him began looking for options. The Giants were one among them.
Now that the Commanders are in talks of drafting McCarthy at 2, it would leave Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels, the other top QBs in the 2024 draft class available. Hence, per Vacchiano, the Giants could strike a trade down with the Patriots to jump to No.3 to secure Drake Maye.

This would mean that the Giants would get an upper hand over the Vikings even if they get a trade-up with the Cardinals. Amidst the chaos, who do you think will land where? Will the teams get the players they want or will they need to draft the ones available? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
