“Plays the Role of Victim”: Simone Biles Faces Backlash From Jason Whitlock Amid Caitlin Clark Comparison

Caitlin Clark went through some tough times, but out of it all, she got one positive thing: her supporters. There has been a lot of criticism against the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 WNBA draft. From Antonio Browns’ mean comments, to now, a comparison against Simon Biles belittling her, Clark has experienced the best of online trolling. Each time, however, her fans stood strong as her defensive shield online.

Charles Cliff posted a comparison of the Instagram followers of Clark and Biles. Clark boasts of about 2.1 million IG followers, whereas Biles has a staggering 7 million followers. It was okay until here, but it was the last two-worded sentence that irked Jason Whitlock off. “Facts Matter,” Cliff wrote beside the comparison.

Whitlock jumped to correct him. “Those aren’t facts. They’re IG follower counts. Social media is a stage for people to virtue signal and pretend and for the puppet masters to promote narratives,” Whitlock stated as a matter of fact. However, it was his following words that left fans shell-shocked. “Biles plays the role of victim. She gets a lot of support from the establishment for playing that role,” Whitlock said about Biles.

With the comment, Whitlock might have invited some serious condemnation from the fans since Biles is known for speaking up against the s*xual assault she endured. Biles was one of the hundreds of women who came forward as the s*xual assault victim of former Team USA doctor Larry Nassar. Since then, Biles has clinched most opportunities to speak about her “trauma” and “mental health“.

However, looking at the career difference between Biles and Clark, the parity seems only fair. Biles has a decade of a head start as compared to Clark, who just stepped into the WNBA from college basketball. All the popularity that Clark has amassed was in the four years at Iowa. While Biles had her fair share of criticism, the online assault that Clark is facing currently has drawn more eyes on her.

What started with a congratulatory message soon turned into something utterly creepy. AB has taken over the headlines for harassing Caitlin Clark online by making derogatory statements and memes about her. Tweets calling Caitlin Clark ‘looking like a man’ have been streaming on X. Brown even went as far as to drag Clark’s boyfriend Connor McCaffrey into the cyber bullying.

Frustrated, Clark blocked Antonio Brown on X as a symbol of protest. After taking a few more digs, Brown has now assumed a polarising tone, lauding Clark as a generational talent. “I’ll say it again for thе hatеrs, Caitlin Clark should be an NBA Draft pick. Draft is wеak. Shе is a gеnеrational talеnt. This would bе thе yеar,” Brown said, shocking everyone.
