The recent Rodarius Thomas arrest drama has become major news for the Bulldogs. With no updates on any form of suspension for RaRa, Kirby Smart had faced major flak from the public. However, now is not the time for all that cause we have a different Georgia alum breaking records out here. What. A. Finish. Nic Fink managed to grab a silver medal for the team. The champ went on to win the 100m breaststroke final alongside Adam Peaty and Nicolo Martinenghi.
What makes this moment so great is the fact that Fink broke a 120-year-old record, becoming the second above-30 US athlete to win a medal at the Olympics. The last time this happened was way back in 1904. While Nic might’ve thought that this moment couldn’t get any better, a surprising guest decided to hop on a call for him. While on an interview with Maria Taylor, Smart called in to congratulate Fink for the win. “Go Dawgs! Silver medalist, I’m so pumped,” Smart said. Fink, alongside 33 other Bulldogs members is competing in the 2024 Olympics. Also, another great news, Fink is about to be a father soon and Smart went on to congratulate him on that too. Not only this, but Smart also mentioned how he, in his younger days, was all into breast stroking too. “I was a breaststroker back in high school, I was pumped,” he added.

While working as an engineer, Fink managed to grab 13 world championships between 2022 and 2024. When the Olympics came calling, he put every aside and focused on training. It almost paid off too, Fink nearly managed to beat Nicolo Martinenghi as well. “In the last 50 meters, the last 10 strokes, I saw Nic (Fink) next to me,” Martinenghi had mentioned in an interview. The conversation ended on a sweet note. Fink went to ask if he needed tickets for the national championship. Smart quickly said that the Bulldogs gotta get there first.

Which they probably will cause this season is building up with the Bulldogs being one of the major teams on the list. With Carson Beck on the helm and following pages taken straight outta Nick Saban’s playbook, the Bulldogs are becoming the defensive powerhouse this season. “The next Nick Saban” is something Paul Finebaum had claimed applies best to Smart. Saban mentored him himself and even went on to defeat the legend during the SEC championship. The student had now become the master.
The 2024 season is going to be a spectacle. With Smart’s Bulldogs against Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide, an old rivalry would be reignited and you can bet that Nick Saban would be watching from the sidelines.
