With the signing day merely 17 days apart, Colorado is yet to finalize their roster for the season. The team now has 19 players up their sleeves, after DJ Lundy changed the course of his career by deciding to stay in Florida. As Deion Sanders and Co. browse through the available recruits, insiders break down the practice mantra the Buffs have been practicing since day 1.

When Deion Sanders made his switch from Jackson University to Colorado, the hopes were high. Even though Coach Prime was equipped with the best of his team and players from Jackson State, he didn’t spare them of the relentlessness that he put each CU Buffs player through.

Deion Sanders wanted nothing less than perfection

Deion Sanders and Co. outperformed themselves in the initial three games of the 2023 season. Well, Coach Prime wants to boast the same for the entire 2024-25 season. Hence, the decision to start off the year with one good hope-stirring message, something that Buffs excel in. ” I practice like I play so when I play it will be practice,” has been the motto of Coach Prime. Even Deion Sanders’ former Cowboys teammate, a guest on the 7-figure squad, agreed with an anecdote from his practice days with Coach Prime. “He comes in, his first day at practice. He went like eight times. Back, another wide receiver, step up,” started the guest. “He shut it down, man. He went like eight or nine reps. Shut it down,” emphasized the speaker, indicating the level of performance that Coach Prime expects from the Buffs in the practice sessions.

With the lineup of five-star and four-star recruits with Buffs, and the ‘perfection or nothing’ strategy, would Buffs last more than their previous season’s 4 wins? While that question remains a thing to be answered after 8 months when the season starts, one thing can be made sure from now, they are not repeating the same mistakes they committed in the 2023 season.

Where did all of it go wrong?

The result was the end product of a pile of bad decisions, both on and off-field. The primary reason for the Buffs’ failure was bad play calling, something that the team has to work on if they don’t want to throw the talent they have this season down the drain.

Following was benching 5-star Cormani McClain and demoting Sean Lewis during the season. Their absence from the team proved to be quite hard-hitting for Colorado in the later stages. With all this, penalties remain something that the team needs to keep in check, as they stole victories from the team this season. Hence, while Buffs work on honing their talent, they would also have to keep track of not repeating the same old mistakes.
