Michigan lost their new defensive lineman coach to an indefinite suspension before he could showcase his coaching abilities. Greg Scruggs made headlines when the Wolverines officially hired him on March 8. But after setting a bad example, his position at Michigan has gone down the drain just before the action begins at the spring practice kicks off.
According to a report by The Detroit News, this isn’t the first time Scruggs was suspended for similar incidents. In 2011, he was dismissed from Louisville after being arrested on a DUI charge. He was also arrested for allegedly driving under the influence in 2013 when he was with the Seattle Seahawks. And now Michigan? See what head coach Sherrone Moore has to say about his action.

According to Moore’s statement, “[Greg] made no excuses and has taken accountability for his actions.” The 33-year-old, who previously played in the NFL and served the New York Jets as assistant DL coach, transferred from Wisconsin to Michigan after the 2023 season. A Michigan OWI charge results in a consequence of a six-month license suspension, a $500 fine, and up to 93 days in jail. His future now hangs in shrouds of suspense.

Michigan moving forward to spring training
The future of Scruggs in Michigan as the DL coach remains unclear after his allegedly unlawful action. But if Moore were to follow in the footsteps of former Alabama HC Nick Saban, he might consider that nothing good happens after midnight. The Wolverines already have the best defense in the nation, allowing 23.8 yards per point last season, resulting in their National Championship victory.
