Michigan fans developed a passionate negative opinion towards AD Warde Manuel as he reportedly ‘did not do enough’ to secure the coaches after the National Championship win. This not only led to fans rebelling against Manuel still holding the job but also drove many of the coaches away from the program. Jesse Minter, Jay Harbaugh, Ben Herbert, Steve Clinkscale, and Mike Elston, all were pivotal parts of the structure that Harbaugh had created at Michigan. Hence, because of the rumored poor management, all these coaches joined Harbaugh at the Chargers.
It was Sherrone Moore, the successor of Jim Harbaugh in Michigan, who had to bear the consequences. Well, almost as a small glimmering beacon of hope for him, Michigan AD Warde Manuel made an announcement regarding Michigan’s strategy to hire an assistant head coach. “I knew it was a possibility that Jim would want to talk to some staff about going there. And obviously he did and they made a decision,” Manuel said. Almost as a balm to Moore’s wounds of losing coaches to Harbaugh, Manuel stated the positives that he would get. “It gives Sherrone an opportunity to rebuild the staff, particularly the defensive side in the way that he wants. And we feel good about the people that he is bringing on,” added he, reassuring the Michigan fans of the staff being found and formed in Michigan.

The next hire was of Don ‘Wink’ Martindale, one of the most in-vouge DC in the NFL. It is after almost 21 years that ‘Wink’ would be stepping his foot back into college football. The best part about Martindale is his former connection with Jesse Minter and Mike McDonald, the former DC at Michigan. Back in the day when Minter and McDonald were learning their basics as position coaches in Ravens, it was Martindale as a DC who them familiarized them with the strategies. Hence, fans can breathe a sign of relief that Michigan’s defense is in the one of the best hands it can be in.
