Those who can face defeat head-on, are set above the rest. To treat a loss as a learning curve is easier said than done, but Deion Sanders does both exceptionally well. He has been able to maintain his composure through celebratory wins and through testing times. Colorado’s hyped winning streak has turned to shambles as they struggle to remain bowl-eligible for the season.
Unlike most other coaches who shy away from uncomfortable questions and criticism after a lost match, Coach Prime decided to sit it out. In an exemplary show of sportsmanship, the Colorado head coach answered each question thrown at him with his characteristic charismatic approach. He took the opportunity to address, amongst other aspects of the match, the sending off of son and safety Shilo Sanders in the second quarter of the match, citing it as ‘horrendous.’

Coach Prime’s team has experienced four losses in their last five matches, managing only one victory against Arizona State. Their disappointing defeat at Stanford was followed by another loss this week against the UCLA Bruins. To compound their woes, Sanders’ eldest son and a key player on the defensive line was flagged for alleged ‘targeting.’
The coach was advised to leave the post-match conference after a few moments since no other coach would have chosen to sit through an interview that only kept re-visiting the woes of defeat. However, Coach Prime sat through the uncomfortable interview, welcoming and answering reporters for an extended period of nineteen minutes- something that remains unseen in a coach after a loss.
That was a first.
Coach Prime was told he could end his press conference after a few minutes.
He waved it off and ended up taking questions for over 19 minutes.
I have never seen a coach do that after a loss.

In the second quarter of the match, Shilo Sanders was seen making a textbook tackle on Carsen Ryan following a 3-yeard reception. At first, the tackle seemed clean, and Shilo celebrated it. However, upon further review, the referee decided to flag him, leading to Shilo’s ejection from the game, effectively ending his night.
Coach Prime recognized the gravity of the situation in his sideline interview with ESPN, acknowledging the significant loss to the team’s defense. “Losing him was huge,” said Coach Prime referring to the young athlete’s critical contribution to the team’s defense.

The Buffaloes had highly anticipated their game at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, following the Coache’s promise to demonstrate a marked improvement in the team’s defense after their disastrous defeat against Standford last week. In the first quarter, the Buffaloes took an early 6-0 lead but managed to score only three more points for the remainder of the game. The Bruins rallied to secure a 28-16 victory in the Pac-12 Conference matchup.

Despite two of Travis Hunter’s acrobatic interceptions in his second game back from an early season injury, Colorado failed to maintain their initial lead, which later translated to a 16-28 defeat against the UCLA Bruins. Going forward, the Buffaloes need to defeat both Arizona and Washington State just to become bowl-eligible.
