Is Shedeur Sanders truly the next big thing, or is KJ Jefferson still the one to watch?

Seems that the fault is, after all, in the stars for UCF QB KJ Jefferson. Even after all the records he broke exemplarily, he failed to be the best QB in the eyes of his idol, his quarterback guru Gus Malzahn. The UCF head coach, who is best known for his work with Cam Newton, has a personal favorite and he’s not from the Knights. Rather, Malzahn has found the skills of the QB from Colorado particularly impressive. Yes, we are talking about Shedeur Sanders, the QB who beat Jefferson in Baylesses’ ‘best QB’ race!

In the Big 12 Media Day UCF press conference, the UFC head coach opened up on whom he thinks will be etched as the best QB this season. “His son (Shedeur Sanders) is one of the best in the country if not the best. You know, I saw him in that game and he was going intense, great. That looks really good. That has to be Deion Sanders’ son. ” the UFC HC said, shattering all the hopes KJ Jefferson had from his HC. Not only that, Malzahn’s comments added another layer to the increasing rivalry between the QBs.

The rivalry was conceived with a similar comment coming from Skip Bayless. The ‘Undisputed’ host has always been a fan of Shedeur’s QB skills, which he has made loud and clear on his show. Adding to that, Bayless, on 24th June called Shedeur Sanders, “not just the best QB in that conference but he’s the best QB in the country,” on his show Undisputed Live. If all the praise for Shedeur Sanders is not enough, the QB in his collegiate days is already getting compared to the GOAT Tom Brady, which could prove to be a huge boost for his draft stock.

Can Shedeur Sanders get cemented as the QB after getting compared to the GOAT Brady?

The comparison came from the same episode of Undisputed Live, where Bayless called Shedeur Sanders ‘the best in the country’. In terms of accuracy and poise, Bayless believes that the CU QB has strikingly similar features to Tom Brady. “Shedeur is a little bit more of a pure passer than Caleb is,” Bayless said. “He doesn’t have quite the cannon that Caleb (Williams) has, but it’s enough of an arm because it’s a Brady-esque arm, and Brady had plenty of velocity.”

With this being said, Shedeur Sanders is already expected to be drafted as the No.1 overall and a QB1 in several of the 2025 mock NFL drafts like CBS Sports. However, in other mock drafts, like ESPN’s Matt Miller’s, Shedeur Sanders is facing tough competition from Georgia’s Carson Beck as Beck is rumored to go as a QB1. Now that he is getting compared to Brady, will it cement his spot as a QB1? Well, we can’t say that for sure but what we can say is if Shedeur displays a top-notch performance this season, then he will surely go as a QB1.
