2022 v. 2023 Stats Comparison: Has Colorado Made Any Progress Under Deion Sanders’ Leadership?

Deion Sanders is aptly named Coach Prime. During his season with the Colorado Buffs, Sanders has displayed his Prime magic, one that every fan felt in their heart. Coach Prime has not only leveled up the game of Colorado major since their embarrassing last season.

Well, even though analysts have a pretty mixed-up opinion about Sanders, with Robert Whitlock trying to prove why Deion Sanders is not the best, to Skip Bayless, who really wishes Coach Prime to end up with the Dallas Cowboys. Between all of this, Here I will sort out the most relevant points that I think would be perfect to analyze Sander’s success till now with his team.

What do analysts around the world have to say about Deion Sanders?

Well, first it’s not just Bayless who wants Sanders to join another team. CBS Sports analyst Pete Prisco commented on Sanders possibly joining the Raiders. After the team kicked out Josh Mc Daniels for rejuvenating the face of their team, Prisco opined that Sanders’ would be a tailored fit for that face. Along with this, Stephen A Smith believes that Sanders would be a good fit for Texas A&M. Even though Sanders has made it loud and clear numerous times that he does not want to be a part of the league, these analysts think he would be a perfect fit for him.

Well, I would place my bets on the other side of the argument, looking at what these analysts, and the rest of the points, have to say. There are many analysts, like CFB’s Joel Klatt, who think that Sanders is perfectly fine in the position in college football. As per Klatt, Sanders has ‘focused on improving and developing youngsters who have talents in the world of football’. Well, that does stand true, looking at the players Sanders has molded during the 2023 season.

On the other hand, there are several who have bashed Coach Prime with hate. Well, they are free to criticize all they want, but it won’t change the fact that Deion Sanders has transformed the Colorado Buffs into something much mightier than just a college football team, into almost a brand. Well, take a look at other teams. They are not as frequent appearing in headlines as the Buffs, creating more NIL value for its players, and ultimately making them popular faces. This leads to an increase in sold-out stadiums (something that we all witnessed a lot this season), bringing the circle back to the field.

2022 vs 2023 statistics comparison

Speaking of fields, the numbers do speak volumes this season when it comes to the Buffs. The numbers have jumped up. For instance, during the last season, the leading player for passing yards was QB JT Shroud with 1200 yards, as compared to this year’s leading player for passing yards, QB Sheduer Sanders with 3144 yards, with a couple of games remaining in the season.

The previous year, RB Deion Smith was leading for rushing yards with 393 yards, whereas this season RB Dylan Edwards is on the top with 278 yards. Similarly, WR Jordan Tyson had 473 receiving yards, being on top for the category, whereas this season WR Xavier Weaver is leading the board with 867  yards. Coming to tackles and interceptions, for the previous year, LB Josh Chandler had 96 tackles, whereas CB Nikko Reed had two interceptions. Whereas this year, safety Trevor Wood is leading the scoreboard with 56 tackles, and CB Travis Hunter has 3 interceptions.

Not to mention the season has yet not ended for the Buffs. Hence, after all these numbers, some mighty and some not-so-mighty, the thing that has surely changed is the player’s confidence while playing the games. Well, thanks to Deion Sanders’s blazing strategies, the boy has finally matured to step into the world of professional cricket. Let’s look at how Deion Sandes did it.

I feel that Sanders is the neighborhood dad who, despite keeping his kids disciplined, carries that jolly aura around him. However, I don’t say this solely out of my imagination, but rather from the opinions I collect from his press conferences. Which is also the holy grail to get to know about his strategies for the upcoming games.

For instance, when Sanders was compared with Michael Jordan, he took the podium to clear out the key differences between them. Notice how Sanders started his answer with a “Well, my life is positive.” Moreover, he talked about winning, not just the games but also the hearts of his fans, along with how tough the losses can be. Speaking of losses, the recent cutting-edge loss against Arizona was something Sanders apologized for on camera, taking complete ownership of the mishap.

Additionally, Sanders also made the headlines for sharing his take on how he ‘reignites the passion’ in Colorado players’ minds. Sanders has often said about being tough on players when necessary and later regretted the same thing, saying he was ‘too tough on them’. Quite paradoxical, I believe, but at least he admits to being too tough on players sometimes, unlike many coaches who always want their players to grind continuously.
