Deion Sanders has always regarded his RB Dylan Edwards as a special kid. He entered Coach Prime’s program in 2023 as a 4-star prospect and one of the top players to join the Colorado Buffaloes. And it wasn’t a difficult choice for the Buffs HC to sign the 18-year-old as he said, “It made it special (to sign Edwards) because I have a tremendous relationship with his parents.”

The coach-parent relationship isn’t all. Coach Prime also admitted when he previously signed Edwards saying, “We’ve coached that kid since he was, I think, 5 or 6 years old, and his sibling. It’s a special bond.” Perhaps this bond is one of the reasons why the Derby native flipped his commitment from Kansas State to Colorado. But it looks like the Prime episode for him has come to an end.

The Bible passage reads, “If God is for us, who is against us?” His departure has caused mixed reactions among Buffs fans but he has put his faith in God and is taking a blind leap of faith into the portal. Edwards joins four other rushers in the transfer portal who had 10+ carries last season. In his season with the Buffs, he lived up to Coach Prime’s expectations becoming the first CU Buffs player to secure five TDs in his rookie season.

He also recorded 76 carries for 321 yards while also making 36 catches for 299 yards. The news of his transfer was announced after Ohio State RB Dallan Hayden joined Deion Sanders via the portal who recorded 19 carries for 110 and a touchdown in just three games due to injury. And now that the RB position is open, he’ll be the favorite to start. As for Edwards, there is a chance he could go back to play for his native state.

As previously mentioned, Kansas State was the initial target for Dylan Edwards who committed to the program in June. And surprisingly, he flipped from it to Notre Dame in August. But when Deion Sanders was appointed the HC of Colorado, he ultimately joined him hoping to put their childhood coaching into action but last season wasn’t what he expected things to be, hence his transfer decision.

Kansas State could be his favorite landing place because his father used to play for the Wildcats as an RB too. Despite his previous flip, the program looks like they still have the welcome mat on their doorstep. The Wildcats QB Avery Johnson reposted Edwards’ transfer announcement and kept a home emoji in the caption. It’s not clear what the Buffs transfer has in mind but there is a strong expectation that he’ll be going home.
