Could Shilo Sanders’ bankruptcy declaration have an effect on his brother making it to the NFL? Well, there could be some truth to it, but Deion Sanders and Shedeur aren’t taking any chances. While there have been calls for Coach Prime to do “what is right,” the family has largely remained tight-lipped about Shilo’s predicament.

On his YouTube podcast, Jason Whitlock took the initiative to decode why Coach Prime and his quarterback son are staying away from Shilo’s controversy.

The Buffs’ safety found himself in trouble involving a 2016 lawsuit that had him getting engaged in a physical altercation with security officer, John Darjean. It is believed that in order to escape the financial charges brought against him, Shilo declared himself bankrupt by concealing his NIL deals.

This was enough for Whitlock to take up on his podcast as he explored the other side of the story- the reason behind Deion Sanders and his son Shedeur not dropping any comment about Shilo. Whitlock began by talking about Shedeur’s decision to trim his hair and said this attempt at rebranding might be tied with Shilo’s situation and the lawsuit.

He mentioned the details of what happened and said, I just think those types of questions about Shilo bleed over into Shedeur. And Deion and Shedeur are trying to clean things up before he gets to the NFL and I again I can’t do anything but applaud it.”

You must be wondering why Deion is more interested in Shedeur’s debut in the NFL and not Shilo’s according to Whitlock’s statement. It’s because the Buffs’ safety has not been as lauded a prospect while Shedeur has been touted as a top-5 Draft pick many including his father.

So this clean up before the NFL 2025 Draft could be an attempt to make Shedeur’s prospects more appealing to potential suitors, while maintaining a distance from his brother’s controversy also makes sense given what’s at stake. Even though they have maintained their silence, Deion Sanders has been accused of quietly shielding his son.

A few days ago on the Coach JB show with Big Smitty, Coach Jason Brown hit out at Deion for not keeping his son in line and allowing him to file for bankruptcy to get away with paying the lawsuit. He said that the Sanders family has enough wealth to pay the alleged victim but are shying away. “Point I’m making is- Do what is right! At some point we’re teaching a kid how to go bankrupt and not pay the 11 mil that you received in NIL money or etc. Do what is right. You’re avoiding the fact that your son did this act, heinous act. And now we’re defending it by teaching them how to go bankrupt.”

Deion Sanders was himself tangled in this legal web. He was named as a defendant in Darjean’s lawsuit and was accused of negligence as a parent. But in 2019, he won a summary judgment ruling against Darjean and got the claims against him removed.

In 2022, the trial went ahead without Shilo’s presence in the court after he missed the notice. It was there that the court accepted Darjean’s version of events and ordered Shilo to pay $11.8 million in damages. Last October, attorneys for Sanders notified the Dallas court that he had filed a petition for relief under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code in a federal bankruptcy court in Colorado.

The petition also stated that Sanders assets are valued less than $320,500, however, Darjean has contested that he has not represented the totality of his assets given that his NIL valuation stands at over $1 million.

As this saga rumbles on, Shedeur is trying his best to build his brand and a change in his looks could be the way to go as the Buffs’ quarterback tries to shift the attention of the critics from Shilo’s alleged wrongdoings.

Shedeur prioritizing “business” through look change

As found in Jason Whitlock’s podcast, there is mention of Shedeur’s haircut. The Buffs’ quarterback sensation’s new hairstyle is believed to have transpired due to Deion’s convincing. However, as per the speculation, it could be a joint plan by the father and son to not let Shilo’s criticism affect them in any way.

Now that Shedeur Sanders stands at a crucial juncture with some critics claiming that the QB will be a top-5 pick in the 2025 NFL draft while others believe that Travis Hunter will be at an edge over him, he refuses to make any wrong step.

Earlier, the 22-year-old sported a look with long, twisted braids. However, he now favors a shorter, more “professional” haircut. As Shedeur paid a visit to Colorado’s Memorial Day Cookout, he was spotted debuting the new look. On being asked the reason behind his transformation, the QB replied, “Come on, man, it’s the business year, man. I handle business, stand on business, everything business, bro.”

Being the most sacked quarterback in the last season, Shedeur Sanders definitely has a lot of unfinished business that he promises to take care of before boarding on to the big NFL ship. He will hope that he gets his way without his brother’s controversy hanging over his head.
