Even though Travis Hunter was a big deal back at Jackson State, some felt he was too skinny for how well he played. The two-way star, being a wide receiver should typically weigh around 190 pounds, and likewise, as a cornerback, he should be closer to 185 pounds. But guess what? Hunter started out way lighter, at just 165 pounds for his height (6 feet 1 inch).

Last year, even though Hunter displayed impressive gameplay for the Buffaloes, his physical disparity seemed to be a hindrance. During a September game against Colorado State, he suffered an injury from a late hit while going for a catch on the sidelines. This sidelined him for three crucial games, and the Buffs, who started with a promising 3-0 record, quickly ended the season with a disappointing 4-8 record.

But this year, Hunter isn’t giving any excuses. A recent Well Off Media video captured the Buffaloes getting weighed before a big game and Hunter seems to be promising this time. The two-way phenom, brimming with confidence, exclaimed, “I told you, 185!” He then set an ambitious goal stating, “190 by the end of the month, bro! 7lbs a game!”

Deion Sanders Jr., who was filming, joked, “I know where the extra weight coming from,” teasing the two-way star. While his hint was a mystery, Hunter was swift enough to playfully respond, “Get your ass back.”

Looks like Travis Hunter’s been working hard this year. He’s put on some extra weight, which seems to be making him even stronger.

Travis Hunters’ physical abilities fuels championship dreams

Travis Hunter is making a serious statement this year. After a weight check revealed he’d reached his target of 185 lbs, he wowed everyone with a strength test. Strength and conditioning coach Brandon Reeyes put Hunter through his paces, and Hunter effortlessly lifted a whopping 335 pounds. He also added 3 consecutive sprints to it leaving everyone in awe.

But the WR/CB’s dedication goes beyond raw strength. Last week, the Buffaloes endured a grueling Navy SEAL training program. Drills, push-ups, and even swimming with backpacks were on the menu. While even star quarterback Shedeur Sanders showed signs of fatigue, Hunter thrived. He pushed himself to the limit, even competing head-to-head with the top four Navy SEAL swimmers.

All these are proof of Hunter’s hard work and it’s likely to make him a beast on the field.  Looks like injuries are unlikely to sideline him this season, and his overall power will be a major asset to the Buffaloes. With Hunter leading the charge, Colorado’s championship dreams might just become reality.
