Can Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter turn around any NFL team, or is it all just hype?

From Paul Finebaum’s “They’re not relevant in College Football” to Matt McChesney’s “First-round quarterback and the best player in college football” all of it has turned into some sort of war for Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. This is getting wild folk and people are already picking sides. The 2024 season is gearing up to become something a lot different and now NFL Draft Analyst Ian Cummings has poured more fuel into the fire with his Mock Draft list for Pro Football Network.

On July 20th, Matt Cannata shared on X what seems like a draft pick list for the NFL. Apparently, Ian Cummings was behind the list and what it reveals is interesting. In the list, it’s clear as day that Cummings thinks the New England Patriots would pick Hunter and Shedeur will go to the New York Jets. Although this is a mock list, it’s quite different from what ESPN had projected back in May. Jordan Reid from ESPN predicted that the pair would remain on the West Coast. “adding Hunter as an interchangeable defensive back would give them (Seahawks) options,” Reid predicted for Travis Hunter. The main reasoning behind it was that the Seahawks already have 2 solid players as WR (Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon). What they lack is a proper cornerback which Hunter would be the perfect fit for.

For Shedeur Sanders, Reid decided to pick the Raiders. “Sanders is a smooth operator whose game centers around his great ball placement,” he mentioned. This is quite true because when Daniel Jeremiah put out his scouting report on Shedeur, he noted the same thing. “Pure thrower with a compact, smooth stroke,” Jeremiah said. Shedeur Sanders has a solid aim, but what he mainly suffers from is surviving in the pocket and this has been an issue since 2023, which even Deion Sanders and Daniel Jeremiah have agreed on. However, coming back to the recent draft list, Shedeur being put in Jets raises a lot of eyebrows. Especially because Deion Sanders prefers the Raiders because of the connection he shares with Antonio Pierce, HC, for the Raiders. What’s more funny is that Ian Cummings thought someone else would be a great fit for Raiders instead of Shedeur.

Who is it?

Carson Beck, the new-age Eli Manning, was seen as the top pick for the Las Vegas Raiders on the draft list. Beck, who according to Daniel Jeremiah is like “Eli Manning coming out of Ole Miss.” With solid ball placement and velocity and the ability to easily play from the pocket, Carson Beck can be called the biggest competitor Shedeur Sanders has if he wants to grab the Heisman.

Have an interesting take?

Deion Sanders has been quite open about the fact that he would much rather send his kids and Hunter to the Raiders. “It’s not a mistake that he’s a leader, motivator, knows X’s and O’s, just a good dude. It’s not a mistake that my kids would love to play,” he had said during Big 12 Media Days. While currently nothing is confirmed regarding who ends up in what team, it would be quite funny if everything pans out, as Ian Cummings projected on his list.
