The year 2000 marked an advent for New England Patriots. Robert Kraft’s decision to hand over the reins to Bill Belichick was arguably the best decision in franchise history. Thus far, Belichick’s era has shaped not only the franchise history but also the history of the NFL, with competing against the legendary Terry Bradshaw and Steelers’ 6 SB record. However, each Super Bowl victory left a different tale to be remembered. And the seasons which did not mark the SB victories left even better tales to be remembered.
Hence, as Patriots can assure that this season would mark the end of these iconic tales, at least by Belichick, their former player revisits the epochal seasons, ranking them per his standards. Well, coming from Julian Edelman himself, the ranks awarded to each of these seasons are as credible as they can get.

In his signature way of honouring Bill Belichick’s retirement, Edelman rolled out the ranks for his top 5 Patriots SB winning seasons. However, ahead of proposing the idea, Edelman gave out a clear signal with a “No bias here. Prove me wrong” caption. The 2001 season secured the 5th spot, mainly because of how grandiosely the team beat the St Louis Rams’, also collecting the first franchise Super Bowl on the way. The 2004 SB win follows suit because of beating the ‘dream team of Philadelphia’ Eagles to the race of Super Bowl. However, the third pick was when Edelman propelled into a precarious area with a humorous claim of “Tom’s probably going to hate me for that one.”

It was the 2007 season. And yes, Edelman had his reasons for not keeping it at number 1. Despite Patriots having a season with zero losses for the first time in franchise history, “they did not win, but they were dominating,” as the former WR puts it. Well, full marks to Patriots for trying their best in the season. The 2nd rank is taken up by 2016, as the Patriots recorded a 4-2 record then. The only reason for it being at 2nd position was their slow start against the Atlanta Falcons, but managing to defeat them in overtime.

And the number 1 spot was reserved for the 2014 season. The Super Bowl XLIX. Mainly because, “We were all healthy, Dola, Gronk. Slayed on special teams. TB just f**king carrying the flag around. Down 10 points. Mental toughness through the roof in the fourth quarter. And Malcom Butler making an insane play, making a play when his team needed him. That is a dominating performance for me,” confidently stated Edelman. Safe to say, each Patriots player might have a differing opinion on their favourite season, but they can agree on each season being equally enthralling for all of them.
