Just when the fans thought Deion Sanders was done bringing in fresh faces in Colorado, he brought in more. The hires that Deion Sanders made are some of the most iconic hires in CFB since both of them are NFL veterans and Super Bowl players. Warren Sapp and George Hegamin. Sapp is the high-end graduate assistant coach, and Hegamin is the Director of Leadership and Engagement.
Getting candid about his role and the story that pushed him to join the Buffs, Hegamin took to his X. “I didn’t want to see my brother going through what he was going through. Just watching on TV there were a lot of great things but as a coach, there were things that needed to be fixed,” Hegamin opined, mentioning the obvious, Colorado’s downfall in the previous season happened because of some basic flaws.

With Sapp and Hegamin in the equation, Deion Sanders filled up two more positions at Colorado, adding to his revamped roster as they gear up for their redemption season. While the details of George Hegamin’s contract are yet to be revealed, Warren Sapp’s are made public. Sapp is expected to earn about $50,000 annually since it is an entry-level coaching job, per USA Today. The pay might seem like a comedown for him − $12,500 per month, plus $15,000 in moving expenses. However, the reason behind the minimum wage level is because of Sapp’s equally minimum prior experience in the coaching field.
Even though the Pro Football Hall Of Famer might have made about $58 million in his NFL career, he hardly stepped out of his player uniform to give a thought about putting on the cap of a coach.

Warren Sapp’s job requirements
While his appointment letter stated “Football Quality Control Senior Analyst”, Sapp was hired as a graduate football assistant, setting off some ‘hold up’ confusion amongst the fans. USA Today shed light on the clarification, explaining that he’s classified internally like that because CU does not have an internal job code yet to keep up with the NCAA rule change and pay him as a graduate assistant.

Now that he’s a graduate assistant coach, Sapp is also enrolled in the mandatory course required for his job with CU. The course is graduate level, and he will not be allowed to have off-campus contracts with recruits. On Monday, the university confirmed the former SB Champion passed the background check. He also had a meeting with Colorado’s athletic director Rick George to “clearly articulate the department’s standards and expectations, to which he acknowledged and agreed.” With Warren Sapp and George Hegamin on board, Deion Sanders is expected to flourish even more in the upcoming season.
