Corollaries? Deion Sanders knows the word by now. While they are yet doing the damage repair for their last 4-8 season, some repairs seem nearly impossible. Coach Prime has devised a flawless plan, the execution of which has commenced at the Folsom Field with the training of the recruits.
While they have filled up their roster pretty well, there have been no major updates in their coaching positions. This has been linked to the major announcement of the previous year at CU that shook the conferences. Sean Lewis was demoted from the position of offensive coordinator and the downward spiral of Colorado’s records followed. While Lewis landed another job as the head coach of San Diego State University, the ill effects the incident brought to Buffs, though, still persist.

Deion Sanders struggles with the ill-effects

The Buffs are still facing the aftermath of one decision that was taken in the previous season. While the offense already suffered in the last season with the sudden change in the head coaching position, the team is expected to suffer more because of the negative image created by the demotion. “So obviously the opinion of Shawn Lewis within the Colorado bubble was very different than his market value in college football. That’s a red flag to me. I don’t like the way that looks,” said ON3’s J.D. PicKell.
By pointing this out, PicKell has brought an important concern for Colorado into the limelight. “So the functionality at Colorado is something I’m still questioning,” opined the ON3 analyst. Coach Prime made his intentions to revamp his coaching staff clear since mid-season. Hence, Pat Shurmur’s entry into the OC position has changed the O-line scenario for the team. He shifted Lewis’s ‘aggressive and quick-paced’ offense to what can be called a traditional offense. However, Shurmur isn’t the only reason behind CU’s offense getting a makeover.

Not as much as their transfer portal, but Colorado’s coaching staff did see some dynamism last season. First, the offensive line coach Bill O’Boyle was replaced by Phil Loadholt. To add to it, Darian Hagan too left to become SDSU’s running backs coach. The reason for his departure was the same as Lewis’s: demotion.
Now, about the defensive picture, tight ends coach Tim Brewster signed his resignation, which Colorado wasn’t prepared for. Along with that, defensive backs coach Nick Williams left for Syracuse. All this gave many brutal hits to Colorado’s coaching staff, ultimately affecting the team’s records on gridiron.
