The lawsuits against the NCAA have been gaining more and more visibility. NCAA’s Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) compensation rules are at the center of it all. As per an AP press release dated November 4th, thousands of athletes could not benefit by cashing in on their fame before an NIL ban was lifted in 2021; and a recent lawsuit claims that these athletes are owed damages. Against this backdrop, a statistic surrounding Arch Manning’s NIL valuation was released, creating waves of discontent among the fans.
Arch Manning’s NIL valuation is an estimate of how much his current NIL is worth. Ever since the 2021 ruling, college athletes have been allowed to profit by monetizing their social media following, selling merchandise, etc. However, there is a downside to this—it may foster chances of impartial income, not just among NCAA athletes, but also between college and professional athletes. This is evident from the comparison between Arch Manning and Brock Purdy.

The descendant of the Manning lineage, Arch Manning is the backup QB for the Texas Longhorns. Despite this, Manning shines among the top 5 in the whole of college football for having one of the highest NIL valuations. As a source revealed, Manning’s NIL valuation is currently worth $3.2 million. On the other hand, Brock Purdy, who is not only the star player of the San Francisco 49ers but also the heavy favorite for winning the NFL MVP this season, received $870,000 for the 2023 season.
“Mr. Irrelevant” Purdy was picked by the 49ers as the 262nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. While he has certainly changed people’s mindset surrounding his nickname, he remains severely underpaid for the caliber he carries and the reputation he earned for the Niners this season.

However, it is worth noting that all of Manning’s NIL money currently goes to a charity. Texas HC Steve Sarkisian made a comment in this regard. “Everybody is under this assumption that this was an NIL deal for him to come to the University of Texas. It was absolutely not,” asserted Sarkisian, mentioning he will not take any NIL money until he becomes a starter.

Manning ranks second highest in the NIL valuation
Speaking of numbers, Manning has eclipsed most of the student-athletes in terms of NIL valuation. Bronny James ($5.9 M), Sheduer Sanders ($4 M), and Olivia Dunne ($3.3 M) are the only ones preceding him, at rank 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Among football players, Manning ranks second after Colorado Buffs QB Shedeur Sanders.

Surely, the freshman has made a name for himself through a couple of games he played, but nobody can deny that belonging to a popular family from the sport helped him strike a mammoth deal in his freshman year. Manning joined hands with Panini America, the world leader in officially licensed collectibles and the leading multinational publisher of trading cards. For the collaboration, Manning is set to create a set of limited edition personally autographed cards, with all the profits going to charity.
