Is Shedeur Sanders' confidence inspiring or just plain arrogance? Where do you stand?

Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback known for his swagger, is at it again! Now, there’s a fine line between self-belief and overconfidence, especially after a season that left more to be desired. The Buffs’ 4-8 record last year still stings, and Shedeur starts dropping comments about Bowl expectations. The 2024 Big 12 Media Day saw the whole Sanders crew – Deion, Shedeur, and Shilo -fielding questions from the press. Things seemed smooth until a question about pressure sparked a now-viral comment from Shedeur.

A reporter asked if the pressure Coach Prime faces as a high-profile coach “flows over” to Shedeur, creating an obligation to perform at an exceptional level. Shedeur’s initial response displayed a true sense of maturity. “It’s been there since day one,” he acknowledged. “I remember first media day when I was in HBCU I said we won’t lose a game. I’m undefeated in a SWAC.” So far, so good.

But then Shedeur added a potentially dicey statement: “So I already know what the expectation comes with. I know we’re everybody Superbowl. So I’m really just always stay level-headed and stay grounded because I just I would never want to be that guy look back and not being able to take advantage of the moment that we have right now.”

Now, confidence is great, especially for a top-ranked QB like Shedeur. But this isn’t the first time his bold statements haven’t quite matched the results. Last year, he talked about leading the Buffs to championships, well, the rest is history.

The QB before his TCU game said, “We don’t fear no names.” The Buffs did win three games in a row after that, but then came the losses – 8 of them, to be exact. So, the internet is having a field day comparing Shedeur’s ambitious talk to the team’s previous record.

Fans mock Shedeur Sanders and the Buffs for losing “8 Super Bowls” last year

Have an interesting take?

Shedeur Sanders’ bold statement about everyone expecting Colorado to be a “Super Bowl team” sent the internet into a frenzy. The mockery started with a simple question: “A 4-win team is everyone’s Super Bowl??” One user helpfully added context, reminding that, “They went 4-8 and finished last place in the Pac-12.” Another user combined humor and facts: “That would mean Colorado lost 8 Super Bowls last year. Usually, a top team doesn’t lose that many Super Bowls.” The internet loves a good meme, and Shedeur’s comment became prime material. Laughing gifs and clown emojis flooded the comments section.

One sarcastic comment read, “Everybody’s Super Bowl? Is this Carson Beck in the interview?” While Shedeur racked up 3230 passing yards, the Georgia quarterback soared even higher with 3941 yards. But that’s not all – his team boasts a near-perfect 13-1 record compared to Colorado’s performance. Another user went as far as to say, “Dude’s been hit too many times. Already suffering from cte.” Now who can forget the high number of sacks he endured last season (a whopping 52!)?

Let’s hope Shedeur focuses on improving his protection and leading the Buffs to some wins before setting his sights high.
