Deion Sanders and his clan were part of the Buffs Cookout adventure on Monday at the state’s longest-running and largest Memorial Day parade in Commerce City. Joined by his mother, son, and ex-wife, the streets were filled with an estimated 8,000 proud citizens donning military caps on their heads and waving American flags.
In an Instagram story that was posted on May 27, Pilar Sanders couldn’t help but be star struck by the strength of the community that was showcased in Boulder. There were a lot of people who turned out for the activities and Pilar was heard saying, “So happy Memorial Day out here Boulder, Colorado. This is what they do on holiday, I think this started out like 6’o clock in the morning.”
“It is so wild. They have these events all the time where we see the bunch of bikers or runners or climbers, outdoor people. It is completely an outdoor community. People come from everywhere. It is a lot of fun. This is all day,” she added while walking down the street.

The Buffaloes have their own unique and ingenious way of commemorating the occasion of Memorial Day, and Coach Prime’s ex-wife was left in awe. The Buffs’ community chooses to mark the day with a series of outdoor activities like climbing, running, or other athletic ventures. This unconventional approach is their way of paying respects to the fallen soldiers of America.
With a man like Coach Prime leading the Colorado team, it’s almost befitting that their means to pay their respects to the soldiers is through the expression of sports and athleticism. Colorado’s Memorial Day parade also drew thousands as the streets were swept even before the parade started in Commerce City. Then there is the Bolder Boulder race that takes place on the day.
The Bolder Boulder race is one of the largest 10K races in the country. According to a 2023 report, the Boulder race ranks 4th in size, following the New York City Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and the AJC Peachtree Road Race. Last year, the race had over 35,000 participants and between 40,000 and 50,000 spectators.
The race is sponsored by major brands like Nike and Runners Roost, and it is undoubtedly one of the biggest events to take place in Colorado. Lastly, the Memorial Day tribute honors the veterans in a ceremony that takes place in the Folsom Field, the home of the Colorado Buffaloes.
Meanwhile, the CU Buffs had their own cookout where Coach Prime was joined by a special guest.

WWE Hall of Famer joins Deion Sanders during Buffs Cookout
The CU Buffs also had a Memorial Day Cookout which saw Coach Prime seated alongside his mother Connie Knight as they were joined by Shilo Sanders and two special guests.
WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg and his Gage joined Sanders and his family at the cookout. Goldberg and Sanders used to play together at Atlanta Falcons before they went their separate ways. Uploading a video on his Instagram Sanders called Goldberg as “My great friend,” while the pro wrestler said, “I love him like my brother. And now he’s taking care of my boy. There’s no other defining way that I can describe it except the fact that my son is going to school under Deion Sanders.”

Gage has committed to play for Sanders at the University of Colorado as part of the 2024 recruiting class. The 17-year-old LB is a first-team all-District 12-5A player at Boerne Champion High School in Texas and will probably be PWO at Buffs under Sanders.
So as we see Boulder is steeped into tradition when it comes to Memorial Day and it has grown stronger each year and with the continuous unity between the people of Colorado, the masses’ might will only strengthen in the future. Happy Memorial Day!
