Coach Prime might be living a college football coach?s dream, but it only comes second nature to the two-sport legend. Deion Sanders was featured on the cover page of Times Magazine and consequently opened up about how unglamorous life can get on the side kept away from the public eye.?
?We?re being unapologetically who we are,? said Prime Time, referring to his personality and attitude towards football and coaching at large. His unconventional approach has drawn much attention, turning College football into a national spectacle. He was single-handedly able to transform the Colorado program which for the last fourteen years was shrugged off as a football afterthought, into this season?s hottest highlight. However, not all the attention Prime Time receives is appreciative of his unconventional ways.?

Coach Prime highlighted the disparity between the number of white coaches against that of black coaches in the field of college football coaching. ?Seventy percent of us can be in the locker room, but we can?t lead ourselves? It don?t add up,??continued Sanders, who wishes to fix this discrepancy.
He draws attention to the amount of time he has spent both playing and coaching football and points a finger at the persistence of racial discrimination against colored individuals which still remains a perpetual problem. ?If somebody has on a shirt that has wrinkles on it, I?m going to say, ?Hey man, is your iron OK???I?m not going to pretend it?s not there. I?m too old to play games,? says Sanders, ?I?m not one to sit up here and wave the racial flag because I?ve been given some tremendous opportunities.?

With only 10% of top Division I head coaches being Black, it is difficult to deny that racism still exists in the sport. Added to the inherent challenges, opponents are also taking aim at Sanders. He took exception to comments made by Colorado State coach Jay Norvell before the CU-CSU game, saying ?When I talk to grownups, I take my hat off and my glasses off,? with reference to Coach Prime?s sartorial choices.?
However, Coach Prime has ?always been?a wave maker and a go-getter,? and he had a stunning ability to remain positive even when the odds add up against him, be it criticism or defeat. Take, for example, his attitude towards the dismantling of the initial three-win streak this season. He was able to motivate not only his players but the entire audience that it was Colorado’s time to shine, and so did they in their 27-24 win against Arizona State on Saturday night. His reaction to the win, strangely enough, was something on the contrary.?

Colorado?s victory against Arizona State marked the program’s first win in conference play this season and concluded an eight-game PAC-12 losing streak. Despite possessing one of the most skilled offensive lineups in the country, the Buffaloes encountered difficulties advancing the ball for extended stretches during the evening against an Arizona State team with only one win this season. And Coach Prime was not happy about it. He called out the team?s performance in post-match interviews, ?Wonderful win, played like hot garbage,” he said.

It was thanks to the clutch performance of quarterback Shedeur Sanders once again, coupled with kicker Alejandro Matas’ contribution, that Colorado pulled off a narrow victory. “It’s like we’re waiting on him to put on his cape and do what he does,” Sanders said referring to his son, Shedeur. “That’s what he does every week.” With Colorado?s two-way star Travis Hunter still out of the game with a lacerated liver, there has been considerable pressure on Shedeur to outperform. With the Colorado Buffaloes set against the Stanford Cardinal on the 10th of October, who do you think will have the last laugh? Let us know in the comments below.
