With Jim Harbaugh having departed for the LA Chargers and taking several key staff members, including DC Jesse Minter and strength coach Ben Herbert to the AFC West, Sherrone Moore‘s inaugural year at Michigan has been undoubtedly challenging. From hiring coaches to recruiting players, it was not a cakewalk for the new head coach. However, in the face of adversity, Moore is not ready to back down but is preparing the program to move forward strongly. After all, working and winning without Harbaugh is not new to him.
The former U-M offensive coordinator led the team last season as the “acting head coach” and won all three games while Harbaugh was suspended during the sign-stealing case. Now, keeping those past season’s strategies and Jim Harbaugh’s guidance in mind, Moore has redefined Michigan football as they gear up for the upcoming Big 10 season.
During an interview with The Joel Klatt Show, when inquired about Moore’s vision for Michigan under his leadership, the U-M football head coach emphasized his commitment to a physically dominant and tough team for the upcoming season. “I’ve always been a process-driven person,” Moore stated. “I am not gonna change that and I am always gonna put the players first. That’s something coach [Harbaugh] and I emphasized in how we did things.”

At the beginning of 2024, Moore not only lost key coaching staff to the Chargers after Jim Harbaugh’s departure, but several key players who contributed significantly to the national championship win also left for the pro league through the draft. However, despite these losses, Coach Moore remains very confident about the upcoming season.

“We know we’ve got great talent here on both sides of the ball. We’ve built it to sustain and not be up and down,” he said. “We’re gonna continue to work. Just work. Work as hard as we can every single day.” Moore also expressed his enthusiasm about the players’ efforts and progress during the spring training period. He notes that the training has been both physically demanding and enjoyable, indicating a positive and hardworking team environment. Moore also revealed that the players dedicate themselves to maintaining “the standard” and have trained quite intensely.
Therefore, Moore’s first year as head coach will be intriguing as we see if he can uphold the high standard of Maize and Blue without Jim Harbaugh.
