Sherrone Moore has a tough job at Michigan. Being a head coach of one of the most loved franchises in football naturally comes with the pressure of exceeding some of the greatest football coaches the franchise had. While Llyod Carr and Bo Schembechler had already set unimaginable records, Moore’s predecessor, Jim Harbaugh, did not hold back on marking his legacy as well.

Moore comes in after a loss-less season and a natty win, giving him tough luck with the crowd’s expectations. But the head coach has stepped into the quest prepared for the best and the worst. And he had to encounter the worst. Despite asserting his individuality as a head coach with a staunch “I can’t be Jim Harbaugh,” he has decided to carry one tradition of Jim. And that would be to follow his recruiting process by bringing in passionate candidates on board. More importantly, these people should align with Michigan’s core values.

So, when Pat McAfee asked Harbaugh about his take on who would be an ideal candidate for the role, he explained “It’s a united front. A brotherhood. Tough Blue Collar hardworking, and does everything the right way in any way possible for the person next to him. It’s a Brotherhood that’s really unbroken.” Moore knows the importance of having a great team on board, as he witnessed Michigan reaching the pinnacle of success with the perfect team Harbaugh hired. Moore’s understanding of Michigan’s core values, and making them his top priority, is the only evidence needed to prove him the perfect replacement for Jim Harbaugh.

Moore’s ultimatum-like words, “I’m just gonna be me,” are slowly but steadily being proved right. While he has already replaced Herbert, the fulfillment of the defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator yet stands. Michigan’s former DC Jesse Minter, former special teams coordinator and safeties coach Jay Harbaugh, and the director of strength and conditions Ben Herbert has left Michigan to join Harbaugh at the Chargers.

Moore already has two in-house candidates as the replacement of Jesse Minter. Co-defensive coordinator Steve Clinckscale and defensive lines coach Mike Elston are the Michigan staff members who are most likely to be elevated to the position of the DC. However, Strength and Conditioning being an important position for Michigan, Moore was quick to announce the next coach.
