The Michigan locker room is desolated after the best of their stars departed for the NFL draft. QB JJ McCarthy, RB Blake Corum, Roman Wilson, Mike Sainristil, Zak Zinter, and more have taken Michigan’s charm and shine with them, something the new head coach Sherrone Moore is trying to restore. Moore would hardly bring back the old Michigan, however. Rather, his vision is to build a new Michigan.
For building said new Michigan, Moore will need a reliable QB to lead the team’s records and legacy. Fans are growing eager to know the next QB face of Michigan. Moore, however, had dispiriting news for them. During his appearance on the In The Trenches podcast, Sherrone Moore revealed that “Michigan likely won’t know who its starting quarterback will be until a week or so before that first game.”

The Michigan roster currently has two QBs that seem promising: Davis Warren and Alex Orji. They might be the starter for Maize and Blue, or they might not. The Spring games would surely give the fans a glimpse into each one’s gridiron excellence, yet they would hardly know anything until the head coach gives a thumbs up.

Moore, on the other hand, is continuing to build the mystery surrounding their upcoming starting QB. “We’ll see,” he said when asked about their starting QB being from their current roster. QB coach Kirk Campbell also chipped in saying they are not too keen on QB prospects in the transfer portal. So will it be Warren and Orji who will be the next Michigan Men? Or will Sherrone Moore and Co. find a hidden gem from the transfer portal?
The next promising QB prospects
Moore stayed neutral in his stance about Orji and Warren. Orji went 12-for-18 and also scrimmaged for a 20-yard rushing touchdown. Some improvement in his running game, however, is something that would give him the ultimate edge over the others for the starting position.

Alternatively, Warren threw 2 touchdowns and had 3 completions beyond 35 yards. Both the QBs showed promise, something Campbell could work with. However, there is someone else who has left quite an impression on Moore.
Jack Tuttle, the QB who completed 88% of his passes last season in just 17 attempts, was a top-200 recruit coming out of high school, a rank that only Jayden Daniels has crossed. Additing to it, he’s played and started in Big Ten games before. For Moore, “He’s got the talent.”
