Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes found themselves in a trench during this season’s spring transfer portal window. Over 20 players have opted out of the program to enter the portal. Some departing players are highly touted, including Dylan Edwards and Cormani McClain.

With a diminished roster, Deion Sanders has been called out for what is going on behind the scenes in Colorado that has resulted in this transfer exodus. But he has assured fans that all is well. After all, he still has star players, including Shedeur Sanders. However, considering this is his last season in Boulder, Coach Prime needs to find his replacement, and he has his eyes on a 5-star QB prospect.

The Buffs have brought in several players on the offensive side to prepare Shedeur Sanders for the upcoming season. But come next season, the Buffs QB will leave for the NFL as a projected top player to enter the 2025 draft. So, as Schwanitz further added, “They are really going to have to find a quarterback, and it sounds like Julian Lewis is the No. 1 target.” Coach Prime brought Lewis and his father to Boulder multiple times and endorsed him, saying he could start playing early. But while the interest is there, would the transfer exodus affect the Carrollton prospect’s choice to join the program? After all, Colorado isn’t the only program fighting for his interest.

Lewis is committed to USC, but he has previously expressed that he’s still open to more lucrative possibilities. The No. 1 overall recruit recently cemented his credibility by getting an invitation to the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles this summer after an incredible performance at the Elite 11 regional competition in the Atlanta area. The Carrollton HS standout led his team to the state title game as a freshman, where he completed 65% of his passes for 4,118 yards and 48 touchdowns and earned the state Gatorade Player of the Year.

That said, it is no surprise that many programs are keen on acquiring this massive talent. Aside from Colorado, Alabama and Auburn are also vying for his attention, all of which he visited. This summer, Colorado and Auburn will have another official visit from Lewis. Will Coach Prime and the Buffs impress the standout player enough for him to choose them over the other elite teams? Only time will tell.
