Boulder went nuts for Julian Lewis! This five-star quarterback’s visit to Colorado was the hottest ticket in town, complete with a burger named after him and fans camped out with welcome signs — all because Lewis is seen as the heir apparent to current Buffs quarterback Shedeur Sanders, making this recruitment tussle a national spectacle.

Adding fuel to the fire, Shedeur himself fanned the flames on social media. He posted a photo where he appears to be “handing over the keys (or maybe figuratively, his starting role) to Lewis, who sits confidently on a “Black and Gold” throne.

Shedeur Sanders‘ Instagram post, featuring the “key handover” photo with the caption “Legendary,” had fans in a tizzy. They flooded the comments section, urging Shedeur to use his influence and convince Lewis to ditch his USC commitment and join the Buffaloes. Some fans even pointed out how Lewis seemed to be “reaching for the keys” in the photo, implying that it was his eagerness to become the Buffs’ starting quarterback.

Now, Deion Sanders’ friend, pastor Dewey Smith, jumped into the mix with a strategic comment: “Close The Deal 2!!!!!!!!!!!!” As a spiritual advisor with a long history with the Sanders family, Smith seems to be playing the role of recruiting advisor, too. However, he’s not alone — every Buffs fan seems to echo this sentiment.

But this isn’t the first time Smith has shown his support for Lewis. Deion Sanders’ trusted confidant for over two decades has been rooting for Lewis to join the Buffaloes ever since his visits were scheduled.

Last week, amidst the hectic preparations to host the five-star recruit, Deion Sanders shared a picture of himself with the famous gospel singer Smith, captioned, “My man of God.” It seems the Buffaloes’ head coach needed some spiritual support right before the big recruiting weekend. Now, Smith also reposted Sanders’ message with the caption, “Let’s Go @DeionSanders!!!!! We’ve got another BIG weekend, my friend!!!!” These words not only provided an energy boost for Deion but also showed that his trusted confidant was by his side during crucial moments.

Dewey Smith has often spoken about how Coach Prime is “a chosen man of God” and how much he “respects the heck out of him.” This strong bond may be why Smith is supporting Deion in his efforts to recruit one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects.
