My 10 split time is good though,” Travis Hunter proudly claimed in a YouTube video ahead of his EA Sports CFB 25 cover shoot. In the video posted on his channel, Hunter gained a perfect boost in his confidence by knowing where he stands against some of his main opponents for the 2025 NFL draft. That confidence got shattered in the Buffs training grounds. Hunter can thank Shedeur Sanders and his O-line players for that.

Amid growing rumors of a rift between the two, the day was marked off with a competitive spirit in the air at the CU training center. This time, it was an O-line vs. D-line 10-yard split. Acceleration being a forte of Travis Hunter, the two-way star was expected to wow everyone with his blazing speed. However, Shedeur Sanders and the offensive line players had other plans.

Just as Hunter was setting up to make a 10-yard split, Shedeur Sanders and other offensive linemen came in with all the ribbing. “We know it’s not fast 1.2. We know it’s not fast 1.3,” the grey practice jersey sporting O-line teased Hunter. “Let’s get in his head,” Shedeur said, adding his part to it. The mind game worked as he did get in Hunter’s head. Hunter finished his 10-yard dash in 1.70.

In Hunter’s defense, he was not the only player who got humbled. It was the whole black practice jersey donning the D-line. The scores of the defensive line went as low as 1.11 for the split while the offensive line was celebrating its 1.03 record. This means both good news and bad news for the Buffs.

The good news, the Buffs now have a faster offensive line. It is a big achievement for the Buffs since their O-Line was one of the biggest shortcomings of the Buffs in the previous season. They allowed their QB to be sacked a whopping 52 times. Bad news, the defensive line still needs more work in the agility department.

They already have players like Travis Hunter, who has great command over their speed. All they need to do is hone them. As for Hunter, the humbling score would give him all the motivational boost he needs to achieve his goal for the 40-yard dash.

Travis Hunter’s clear-cut expectations from the 40-yard dash

Just moments before Hunter had proudly boasted his 10-split score, he had mentioned his personal goal for the 40-yard dash. “I need a 4.3 bro,” Travis Hunter had confidently said to say to Quinn Ewers then. He had every reason to. Speed is something that the two-way star has worked on and perfected for years.

With his agility working in his favor, Travis Hunter recorded a 4.40 during his unofficial 40-yard dash. It is not just a hair’s breadth away from the goal Hunter has set for himself but it is also very close to the record set for the 40-yard dash in the books of NFL Scouting Combine.

4.2 was a mark that Hunter’s head coach, Deion Sanders, etched in the NFL Scouting history. Even though reaching Deion Sanders’ level would be a real task for Travis Hunter, with him being at 4.4, fans have high hopes for him to rewrite history by breaking Deion Sanders’s record.
