Deion Sanders showing class in the face of criticism—Is he the leader Colorado needs?

Deion Sanders is no stranger to criticism — especially from Paul Finebaum. The ESPN analyst throws some shade their way again as the Colorado Buffaloes head into their Big 12 season.

During a recent interview on the SEC Network, Finebaum unloaded on Colorado and Coach Prime. He confidently declared that the Buffaloes will never compete for the playoffs and that Deion lacks the patience to build them into contenders. Finebaum called them “irrelevant in the big picture” and accused them of having a “ridiculously inflated view of themselves.” Finebaum didn’t stop there. He mocked Shedeur’s claim that everyone sees them as a Super Bowl team, saying, “Shedeur hasn’t done anything but crash and burn.”

However, Deion Sanders chose to take the high road in response to the negativity. He reposted the interview on his X handle, lightheartedly adding, “God is good my brother & they mad mad! I sense a bit of anger & hostility. Lolololololol God bless @RGIII for always keeping it 💯” And, yes, it was only Robert Griffin III who came to Deion’s aid.

The former NFL quarterback offered a contrasting opinion during the interview. He believes that if Deion stays with Colorado for five years, he could “eventually get them to the college football playoffs.” RGIII also defended Shedeur, explaining that teams view Colorado as a “Super Bowl” because of their star players and the extra pressure they face. He added that every team wants to beat them because of their top-ranked quarterback and wide receiver duo. Griffin also took to his X handle, stating he “VEHEMENTLY disagree with Paul Finebaum’s criticism.”

It seems like Deion Sanders has just got one prominent critic up ahead.

Have an interesting take?

Deion Sanders can’t seem to catch a break from Paul Finebaum. He has been their biggest critic since Deion and his son Shedeur arrived in Colorado from Jackson State. Finebaum seems convinced that Colorado isn’t relevant in college football, and it has nothing to do with the team itself – it’s all about Deion. He even called Deion an “industry-created coaching celebrity” and took a shot at his flamboyant coaching style. He added, “I mean, Shedeur Sanders, could he get around the fact that his father’s team is going to be terrible?”

Last year, even when Colorado pulled off a big win against TCU, Finebaum wouldn’t give them the credit, saying TCU just “whenever TCU has the stage to itself, they embarrass themselves.” Then, when the Buffaloes lost to the Oregon Ducks, the analyst used it as proof that their previous win was a fluke.

Finebaum loves to criticize Colorado. He called their win over TCU “a Nova in the sky” and said their losing streak was evidence that “Deion’s party is over.” Finebaum seems determined to find something negative to say about Coach Prime’s team this Big 12, whether they win or lose.
