The career of Ryan Day seems to be in jeopardy as the consistent loss to the Wolverines exists as a stain on the team’s legacy. One of college football’s most prevalent rivalries, titled, ‘The Game’, might just become the potential reason for Day’s release.
Ryan Day has been the HC for the Ohio State Buckeyes since 2019. Though he’s had an exceptional record with playing other teams, Day has certainly seen monumental failure when it comes to playing against the Wolverines. Ohio has lost to the Michigan Wolverines the past three seasons and if it happens the fourth time, Day could very well lose his job as the HC for the Buckeyes.

On the 24th May episode of the ‘Michigan Football at the Voice of CFB’ show, hosts Cliff and Mac dove deep into the question of whether Sherrone Moore is a better coach than Ryan Day or not. Though Moore has just gotten the job, the new HC of the Wolverines when Jim Harbaugh was suspended bested Day. And yet, Mac came to Day’s defense and talked about why he doesn’t think that the Ohio coach should be at risk of losing his job.
Mac mentioned the staggering numbers of Day’s career and said how “it’s crazy” that he is in jeopardy with a 56-8 record. He went on to speak for the Michigan fans and said, “Even a Michigan fan will tell you that Ryan Day should not be on the hot seat and I also don’t think that his coaching stock should drop.” Furthermore, he continued to defend his credibility and stated that “one season should not make or break a coach’s stock, but the way they ended 2023 was kind of abysmal.”

Thus, it is evident that Day’s time at Ohio shouldn’t come to an end since he’s done so much for the team’s overall glory. Moreover, his dreams of winning a natty with the Buckeyes are still unfulfilled, about which he had heartfelt words to share.

It’s been over a decade since the Ohio State Buckeyes got their hands on a national championship. Despite Day’s phenomenal efforts to rake in the natty, they still keep coming up short. Ryan Day was very close to lifting the trophy back in 2020 when the team made it to the finals, but was outnumbered by Nick Saban’s mighty Alabama team.
This year, Day has strong hopes for the team and wants to go all the way. On the ‘Late Kick with Josh Pate’ podcast, Day iterated his strong feelings about winning the championship by saying, “I have this vision in my head of us holding up the national championship or celebrating against the team up north and everyone in Buckeye Nation, 12 million strong, singing the fight song.” Thus, Day will go on to ensure that the song of the Buckeyes gets heard this year, lest this be the last year he’s ever given the opportunity to lead the team.
