Robert Livingston was appointed as the defensive coordinator for the Colorado Buffaloes, which was under the guidance of legendary coach Deion Sanders. Livingston spent nearly 12 years in the NFL. He also had a brief stint at Furman and Vanderbilt before he shifted to the NFL, but now, he is back to college football.

Livingston was invited to the podcast Thee Pregame Show with Uncle Neely. During a segment of the interview, he discussed his team, staff members, and players at the Buffs camp and his philosophy, which aligns with Coach Prime’s.

When the host discussed the importance of having a participatory culture in the organization, Rob Livingston agreed and put forth his viewpoint. He said, “I want you know everybody on the staff to have input and have a voice and um yes, I will have to have final say because if things go great, it’s because we have great players and a great staff, if things don’t go great it’s all my fault.”

Livingston has the mindset of a leader who likes to take responsibility for the team’s failures and allows individuals to take credit for success. Hence, he is cautious about the participatory culture within the Buffs system. Though he allows everyone to have a say, he doesn’t listen to them.

He added to his different viewpoint on leadership and said, “Heavy is a head that wears the crown. That’s how I view leadership is, it takes all parties involved and let’s go get this thing right together.

Though he is back to college football, not much has changed in his leadership style and attitude, as hinted by his recent interview. Interestingly, Robert Livingston’s viewpoints indicate he shares the same leadership philosophy as the head coach, Deion Sander.

Deion Sanders’ leadership style allows him to take responsibility for his team’s failure

Livingston’s head coach is known to have similar traits. Coach Prime took the brunt of their infamous loss to Arizona. The Wildcats edged out the Buffaloes in a close game last November (2023) by scoring 34-31. The Buffaloes fought hard, but a last-minute field goal by Arizona sealed their fate. It extended the Wildcats’ win streak and added another loss to Colorado’s record.

After the loss, Coach Prime confessed during the post-match conference, “I apologize on behalf of just myself.” He added, “We didn’t send them out right, in which we wanted to because they deserve it.
