The seven-time All-Pro and 11-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman died while on vacation with his family in Mexico. This came as a blow for the college football world, knowing how during his childhood, Allen had overcome one of the most horrifying adversities. At 9, he was stabbed 12 times in the head and shoulder while defending his younger brother, Von, from an older boy. Later, he again bolted because of gang activity and drug dealing near his family’s home. As Allen was no less than a rebel in his real life, he ensured to carry this attitude to the field as well, starting with an electrifying career in college.

Larry Allen’s remarkable journey from small school to NFL stardom

Before the NFL, he quickly developed a reputation as a dominant lineman at Division II Sonoma State, and his stock rose among NFL scouts. This can be the part that Seaton might focus on. Then came Allen’s rise to NFL stardom, which was remarkable as he came from a small school. It was in the 1994 NFL draft, that Allen got a breakthrough as the Dallas Cowboys drafted the legend as the 46th player overall. Right from the start till the end of his career, he ensured to retain his talents as in 2019, he got himself featured in the NFL’s 100 greatest players’ team.

Allen was also among the strongest players in the NFL. He left behind a mark, having bench-pressed 700 pounds and squatted 900 pounds. As the starting right guard for Dallas, he defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17 in Super Bowl XXX. Till the last day of his life, he lived by his motto, “My objective is to make the other guy quit” which is captured on his Hall of Fame profile page. As his name adorns the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor, it seemed to inspire the Buffs HC. Hence, Deion Sanders was deeply hurt to lose someone who shared the same competitive mindset and poured in his tribute, “Praying for family and loved ones of @larryallen73 Larry Allen. May Peace locate you all during this turbulent time. Let’s remember the best of times in Jesus name Amen.”

As an OL, the legend often defied logic and comprehension, using his size, brute strength, speed, and agility best. Even though, for Seaton, the NFL is still a faraway dream, the OL can derive inspiration from Larry Allen’s path to success in the NFL.
